I’m sure there are some women who could beat the shit out of some men and I suppose if your life depended on it and you were being seriously beaten by a woman, then it would be okay to fight back, but generally speaking, it’s not okay to hit a woman because they are the weaker sex and generally can’t fight back. The fact this had to be explained or might have to be explained further is very disturbing.

Generally it's not OK to hit anyone regardless of sex. It's not that @Dayton3 hit a woman, it's that he hit his spouse. That's worse than hitting a stranger because of the special nature of the relationship between two spouses. A spouse is supposed to be the LAST person in the world that would hit you. Spouses are supposed to trust each other with their lives, and @Dayton3 broke that trust.

Yes, but you are talking about a person who is not terribly good at reasoning, and has people telling him he is superior and is going to heaven if he believes hard enough in their God. Dayton is a product of his environment and a creation of society. Society could cast him out or tell him he is wrong, but instead he is allowed to teach children. Dayton is not the problem. Let me team you about Dayton’s wife. Sure she’s religious like him, but she’s loving, generous, has friends, is polite, kind and interested in others. She’s everything Dayton isn’t. She doesn’t talk any of the shit he does and she even knows he talks utter garbage at times.

Dayton is not singular if you know the America he lives in. They are called born again Christians by the people I grew up with. They are a disgustingly ignorant bunch who can do whatever they like because god will forgive them and bless them as long as they spout something about Jesus every so often. probably the ones that live up to the whole faith, hope, and charity bit... toss in a bit of tolerance and humility. I could probably point out dozens of folks I've met over the years who's faith helped guide them to be those things. Common denominator being that they give of themselves, their time, and the abundance they find in life... no matter how modest that life might be.

Asyncritus' missionary work always stuck me as living up to the ideal... same as the folks that run the drop in centres and food banks. They see hunger or whatever, ask themselves WWJD?, and decide that the answer is feed the hungry and worry about helping them feed themselves after they've eaten.
