And mine. My grandmother never had two dimes to rub together, but she left me $500 in 1979 dollars, and savings bonds for my kids.

@Dayton3 is the only "no one" in this conversation.

Maybe someone should start a poll...a public one. :chris:

My grandma (dad’s side) worked in a factory for probably thirty years, also never had a dime to run together, saved every penny for me and my sister and left us both a good chunk of change. My mom (after my dad died) did pretty much the same. I don’t have kids, but if I ever do, I fully intend to leave them my money. If not, it goes to my niece. Unfortunately my mom’s mom couldn’t really leave anything other than personal possessions. My uncle has an old CSA belt buckle I really want. I doubt I’ll get it though.

I can't think of a thing either set of my grandparents sacrificed for their grandkids. They did very little for their own kids beyond the bare basics. My dad basically supported his parents when they got over 60 years old give or take and for that matter basically supported his inlaws (my other set of grandparents) when they got older.

Why do you think sacrificing for two generations ahead is such a great "family value"? Sacrificing for your own kids would seem to be of far, far greater importance.

And I'll note that once again our long term members here seem to have no problem attacking me personally at every opportunity. And one can't say I do the same as I pretty much don't give a damn about them personally or otherwise.

We have an ancient corner cabinet. It's got to be at least between 200 and 300 years old. It's been in my wife's family for ever...but they have this weird tradition with this particular piece of furniture. It goes to the oldest daughter of every other generation. So my wife got it from her grandmother, who got it either from her own grandmother or a great aunt, and so on and so forth all the way back a long line of begats. We don't have kids, so it will go to one of our nieces or nephew's daughters.

So much for "we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal..."

Not surprising that @Dayton3 disagrees with the founders.

So, would you say then, that you disagree with the statement: "All men (people?) are created equal"?

    @Dayton3

So, we've established that, in your belief system, not all men/people are created equal. Can you expand upon this belief system so that I can better understand it? It would seem to me that you believe that some people are simply superior to others. And, if that's the case, then there must be a ranking system of some sort. Perhaps something like:

    1) Christian Conservative Americans
    2) Christian non-Conservative Americans
    3) Non-Christian Conservative Americans
    4) Non-Christian non-Conservative Americans
    5) Christian Conservative Western Europeans
    .

    .
    .
    100) Muslims

Am I on to something here?
