Is this "super-sovereignty" thing a solo invention of Dayton's, or did some neocon intellectual cook it up in a think tank and manage to insert it into the fever dreams that make up the American right's conception of reality?

I can’t imagine Dayton having the level of honesty to actually admit who he is like that.

I looked up images representing "neoconservative" and found it. I already had a crude image on the cover of one of my scrapbooks but it had the Republican elephant symbol upside down and I didn't' like that. So I was looking for something better and happened across it.

    Like it?

Well. You're still using the image of my dad that I use as an avatar picture at PoliticalForum.com so I couldn't use that.

I did like my wolverine avatar picture but the conservative symbol seemed nice. I've wanted to make my political beliefs distinguishable for a long time.

Speaking of which get this: I just found out that our local congressman and I probably played football against each other in 1984. Cool huh??

Dude. It's not a swastika. And from what little I know about various right wing and Fascist symbols I thought they used a TWO HEADED eagle. Though I also thought the Russians used a two headed eagle.

It's a direct copy of a symbol used by Nazi Germany, with the color changed from black to gold and the swastika swapped for a GOP elephant.

Whoever created the image was probably trying to make a statement that Republicans=Nazis. Using it as your avatar makes it seem like you not only agree with but embrace that message.

What little you know is right. Nazi Germany had several variations on the eagle with wreath and swastika, none of them 2-headed, though they did use both right- and left-facing eagles.

So if you keep this up, you’re either trolling, or actually believe Republicans are Nazis and are happy about that. Just in case it’s not crystal clear what you’re communicating with that avatar.

Heraldry matters, Mr. History Teacher and Amateur Military Historian. But, I suspect you already know this and you know exactly what the response to your avatar would be.

Well, in that case, lets just remove all doubt:

Well, if you like people automatically assuming you’re a Nazi, then by all means, continue.

And the Swastika was a good luck symbol thousands of years before the Nazis showed up, but most people don’t care about its use any time other than after the early 20th Century. Almost as if it’s been so tainted by association with Nazis that it’s erased any benign aspects it once had.

I agreed with them on some issues but I'm not sure what my brand of conservatism would be if properly labeled. You've seen various proposals I've made. What would you suggest?

It is not "vaguely similar." It's specifically intended to refer to the Nazi symbol. That eagle only symbolizes Nazi Germany, not the United States. Maybe think about switching?

No. I have no desire to start a cult of personality. If the things I believe in have any chance of proceeding forward beyond my death then it needs some broadbased support. thus a broader based name.

Definetly an eagle (not necessarily American) dropping the GOP elephant into the Marianas Trench.

    And there was much rejoicing....

Well, if you do a "reverse image" search on Google you get things like this:

Now, I don't know if the original artist of the illustration Dayton's adopted was serious, or if they were trying to compare the GOP to Nazis, but it seems pretty obvious that the natural connotations one would get from Dayton's avatar would be tied to Nazism. Again, I don't think Dayton is self-aware enough to realize how closely his views align with those of a certain Austrian wallpaper hanger, but for the rest of us...
