Okay, rather than hijack the particular thread which this post comes from, I'll put shit here so that folks who might not be familiar with the matter will understand what Dayton means by all this.

Sometime back, Dayton asked me what it would take for me to give him some respect. Obviously, the easy answer would be "Kill yourself," but I wanted to find a response which was not only accurate, it also had to be one which someone could reasonably expect a person like Dayton to be capable of doing. I mean, after all, asking Dayton to do something like giving up his religion is a huge task, and not something that many people would do. It had to be something which a person could expect somebody to do, without giving up their "core values." So I thought about it, and decided that the best way to respond to Dayton's request was to say that he had to have the ability to admit that he was wrong, and show growth.

This doesn't mean that if he did that, I would suddenly decide we needed to be "besties" or whatever, just that I would give him credit for doing so. Which I did. Of course, recent comments by him undercut the idea that he can admit he was wrong. Then again, if you're reading this thread, you already knew that.

Now, just to be a dick, I'll point out that when I met someone last year, who was from Arkansas, I started describing Dayton to them, they replied, "Oh yes, he's well-known in the state, the only wonder is that he's still able to find a job." Maybe they were telling me the truth, maybe they were lying. I don't know, but I'm sure some folks here will accept it as being the gospel truth.

I find that hard to believe. Even though this is a small state I've never really done anything of distinction.

That's what they told me. I've no way of knowing if they were honest or not. Frankly, I don't even care. I just find it funny.

Admitting he was wrong and committed a hit a hit an run would make me give mad props to Dayton.

Which you undercut by saying that you lied about thinking there was nothing wrong about it for so long.

Why because it's dishonest?

For starters.

You've managed to maintain a marriage despite your personality, so that's pretty impressive.

You are still, against all natural order and comprehension, borderline employable.

You've got a daughter, despite the fact you actively avoid sex, so must have a dick like King Midas' middle finger, so, also impressive.

And, to top it off, you live in Arkansas and haven't gone all Josef Fritzel on said daughter, which probably earns you state-wide notoriety.

On those notes you practically deserve a statue.

Actually, given how statues are meant to make a persons life events larger than the reality, it could be a giant Dayton statue, under one foot a malnourished child's throat representing the Victory Over Shoplifting, the other foot would be in the air with one hand using a flamethrower on it representing the Task of the Flesh Eating Beasts, and the other hand grasping a cancer-ridden body by the neck, tumours popping out of its eyeballs and catching its chemo drip mid fall, to display the Art of Manhandling.

And the whole shebang would by lit by a secondary statue of a little old lady's car on its side, an elderly hand mid-tremble grasping for escape out of a window with flames roaring out of the whole thing to show the Escape from the Pranged Pensioner.

And of course, as all good statues have, there need to some wise words from the portrayed person - perhaps "Only When Black Students Kneel Before Their White Teachers Shall The World Know Peace"
