Does this have something to do with a tweet Kevin Smith sent out a while back about having just finished writing the script for a major property?
Okay, it wasn't all bullshit, he WAS going to be in it, but dropped out. https://www.cbr.com/alec-baldwin-departs-joker-origin-movie/
Marc Maron and Robert Deniro's roles in "Joker", revealed. Deniro is a late night talk show host, and Maron is the producer who books the talent. Phoenix's pre-Joker character will no doubt meet humiliation with his terrible standup on this show. https://www.cbr.com/maron-de-niros-joker-roles-revealed/
And then Bruce Wayne comes on and says something condescending to Joker, and then says something lame that everyone laughs at because he's Bruce Wayne, and Joker hates Wayneses forever, yes we do precious
Fuck Penguin. He'd be an interesting Two-Face though, be nice to see one of the best rogues done right for a change
Well, fuck, Henry Cavill couldn't take the abuse anymore, and quit DC. So, Batman AND Superman need to be recasted. https://www.cbr.com/henry-cavill-exits-superman/
Well, I’m out then. Cavil was the one thing kind of keeping it together, no Superman, no franchise. This DC’s own fault, they should have thought this out better or tried to forge a different path than Marvel. What a fucking mess.
It seems to me that the DC Cinematic Universe is the Betamax to Marvel's VHS. The HD-DVD to Marvel's Blu-Ray. That's sad, because DC has a LOT of great stories they could tell. I just don't think that Warner Bros. has it in them to do right by the content. Wonder Woman was a great film, and I am afraid that it was a fluke.
This DC thing is pretty frustrating. The movies are enjoyable but behind the scenes it's a fucking embarrassing mess. Marvel has made almost 20 movies and hasn't had a fraction of the problems DC has. Cavil was great as Superman, IMO. Huge loss for the franchise, and it definitely makes me lose interest in it. Might almost be time to wrap everything up, wait a few years and reboot the whole thing with different actors and different people in charge.
DC seems obsessed with grittiness - they've begun to realize this with recent offerings (Shazam! looks hella fun) but the Marvel movies have a huge amount of humor and fun in them even though they have darker moments. Starting out with Supes being forced to break his "no kill" rule and then going into Batman and Supes nearly killing each other was the wrong way to start the franchise, IMHO. Go with a pure heroic Superman movie for the first film, have Bats and Supes team up without anything more than snark and a few "I work alone/don't need powers) moments before a greater threat becomes apparent. Then hit out for the League.
Warner is making movies by committee and Marvel/Disney isn't. Warner needs to appoint someone to run the DCU and then let them run.
I’ve heard people say that Nolan essentially broke DC. They saw the success of those movies and thought every movie going forward had to be dark and gritty.
Yeah, but it's not just DC, Warner's whole film division has been run by committee, and reactionism since the fucking 80's if not earlier. Their whole corporate structure needs to be enima-ed out.
Yeah, we're never going to get back to Justice League 2. That storyline is basically over. What they're probably going to do, is do standalones that throw out shout-outs to the continuity like Shazam is doing, and the Marvel Netflix shows already do. And they'll only milk that timeline along until they can get to Black Adam, cuz there's automatic dollar signs on Dwayne Johnson, and everything Harley Quinn related cuz they see dollar signs on Margot Robbie. But after that? Elseworlds like Joker.
The DC film universe is such a joke. I’m just going to pretend Wonder Woman and it’s sequel(s) exist in their own universe and ignore all the other movies. Honestly didn’t care much for any of the other movies and not excited about any of the upcoming ones. The Arrowverse is the real DC shared universe IMO. The movies are just trash. They’ve already introduced a new version of Superman in the TV shows so it’s not like they need Cavill that bad. And there is already a great Flash on TV. Why do we need a different one concurrently on the big screen? Why the heck is DC trying to make a Supergirl movie while there is an ongoing Supergirl TV show? It’s like they never learn their lesson... stop diluting your brand! If they really want to do a Supergirl movie then they should wait until the TV show runs it’s course and then graduate those characters into an epic big screen finale. That’s what they should have done with Smallville when it ended, IMO. You already had the built in audience. And you could easily tweak the story to make it accessible to people who hadn’t watched the show. It might even get more people into the show which is win-win across the board.
YMMV, but from my point of view the movies are a fucking embarrassing mess and behind the scenes must be pandemonium.
I heard the rumor that there's a rumor that WB might be interested in Michael B. Jordan as Superman down the road.
There was a YouTube video I saw that proposed bringing back Keaton as an olderBruce Wayne and doing Batman Beyond. If done right, I’d be okay with that.
Joaquin Phoenix is filming "Joker!". Here's a couple pics. He kind of gives off a Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman vibe. Obviously, this is before his life goes to Hell, and he gets Jokered.
28 other pics at the link, but they're all bits and bobs of the same scene. http://www.justjared.com/photo-gallery/4147489/joaquin-phoenix-the-joker-movie-12/
Maaaaaybe. I'm a little worried about de-mystifying the Joker by giving him a concrete origin. I'm also concerned that the filmmakers can show him suffering enough trauma to make his change believable. But I kinda like the way this looks. And Phoenix--even in the "before" state--looks more Jokerish than I expected.
