He played the younger version of Joaquin Phoenix in "You Were Never Really Here", so...that's an odd synchronicity.
Now HERE'S an idea for an interesting Batman tale (which would clearly fall in the Elseworlds line)...
Cathy Yan and Margot Robbie want Birds Of Prey to be R rated. http://www.darkhorizons.com/birds-of-prey-director-talks-hiring-rating/
Oh, shit, that's good. I think I said to myself "I'll read it later", then got distracted by shit, and forgot. Just saw it now. Sorry.
The real title of Birds Of Prey has come out, and it's....I shit you not.... "Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)". Yeah....I'm probably not going to call it that. Definitely not at the ticket counter. http://www.darkhorizons.com/birds-of-prey-gets-a-very-long-title/
Yeah, you can't really be the Joker's lover and sidekick and still be considered heroic, or even anti-heroic, so I guess they've gotta cut those ties. The title makes me think this will be done Deadpool-style, with Harley (in her insanity) doing fourth wall breaks and such.
Well, add a Blue Beetle standalone to the mile long slate of DCEU movies that'll happen sometime in the 2050's. http://www.darkhorizons.com/scarface-remake-scribe-pens-blue-beetle/
You know what, DC? You should focus your efforts on getting your most iconic characters on the screen in successful movies, not looking for ways to bring (fairly) obscure characters from your catalog to the screen.
This is the mess they created. Auquman might do really well and they will want to do a sequel, same with WW 84. We will essentially be stuck with the old DCU while they’re trying to figure out what to do with Superman and Batman. Obviously they will continue with Joker and Birds of Prey et, so what do you do, recast Superman and Batman and course correct or do you start over? The only two solutions I see is either do Flashpoint and recast or wait and reboot the franchise. They’re obviously not going to meet Cavil’s demands.
Of course, awesome casting could change our minds. No one gave a flying fuck about live-action Pinocchio, but now they've got Tom Hanks for Geppetto. Everyone start thinking of cool Latino actors who haven't already been gobbled up ahead of time by Star Wars TV shows.
I think the prospects for WW84 and Aquaman are pretty good (given WW's success and early reviews for Aquaman). Shazam looks like it could be great. Joker? Who knows? I'm keeping an open mind, and I'm intrigued with what I've seen so far. Birds of Prey? Train wreck though it was, Suicide Squad was entertaining and reasonably successful.
Margot Robbie wants to see the Harley and Ivy relationship on the big screen as much as we do. http://www.darkhorizons.com/margot-robbie-wants-to-explore-harley-ivy/
I'm currently reading Heroes in Crisis, a comic series about the mystery surrounding the murders of a rather astonishing number of DC characters at Sanctuary. Sanctuary is a place where emotionally troubled super people (heroes and villains alike, apparently) can go to work through their problems. Interspersed with the main action of the story are clips recorded at Sanctuary of each person talking about why they're there. This is one such clip with Poison Ivy, interrupted by Harley: Hopefully, Harley and Ivy have a relationship something like this in the films.
The DC movie people probably see Marvel cleaning up with characters like Iron Man, Ant-Man, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Black Panther, and realize that a well made movie about a mid-level character can make that character iconic. Then they look at their television line and see characters like Flash, Green Arrow, Supergirl, or Titans, and they see they've got a deep enough bench to not have to bother trying to reboot Superman and Batman over and over constantly.
It still bugs me that he's wearing clown makeup--and that he's not disfigured to look like a clown--but I feel strangely compelled to see this film. Not sure if it's a desire to see a train wreck, or if I see the possibility of it actually being good.
