Ok, that trailer is actually the first one that makes me excited about this movie.... assuming that Superman is in fact in control of himself.
Assuming that is Superman, Luthor has apparently been playing with Kryptonian DNA, and so could be a lookalike controlled by Luthor. If they're going along the lines of the Max Lord controlling Supes storyline (which makes sense with Wonder Woman), they've kept that firmly under wraps!
I love how (pun intended ) bat shit crazy Lex spears to be. It's so blatant. I was worried about this movie, but not any more.
DC just stole another Marvel guy. Willem DaFoe! http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/willem-dafoe-joins-justice-league-cast
Dear God, I hope not. The last character a Justice League movie needs is MM. Redundant, as we already have a super-powered alien. Also, more than a little silly. A Martian? Sheesh. I'm thinking Defoe is filling a role like Holly Hunter did in BvS: a high profile actor in a supporting role, to class things up a bit. I doubt he'll be anybody in spandex. Of course, the announcement could be deceptive. Maybe he's Darkseid.
MM could be amazing if they focus on the shapeshifting/hiding/appropriating culture angle, like Darwyn Cooke did it in The New Frontier.
He's not Darkseid, the article said he'll be a good guy. I personally would love to see MM, he was great in the DCAU.
Eh, maybe. I admit that I just don't get the love for the MM character. He's always been my least favorite JLAer, ranking below even The Elongated Man.
I think MM has always gotten a bad deal. I cannot name a single good run -- and precious few good side quests like in TNF; but the promise of that character, to me, seems enormous.
Never saw the need for the character. We already have a super-powered alien (Superman) and one that's more relatable. His weakness (fire) is dumb. His costume is goofy. There is no alien civilization on Mars, so the character's whole existence is predicated on something we know to be contrary to fact. His power set (even more so than Superman's) should make him all-but-invincible. In short, I jes' don't like 'im. No sir, I don't like 'im one bit.
Agreed. Although speaking of underusing him, Supergirl goes out of it's way to restrain him sometimes.
this is kinda BvS but it's also referencing the DCCU moving forward so... http://www.newsarama.com/28766-repo...-crowdpleaser-more-suited-to-his-talents.html It seems like an insightful take to me.
Right. I think this is the chance. You don't make him relatable, at least in an immediate sense; you make the problem of relating to him central, not unlike Doctor Who. Superman, as a person, is basically from Kansas, even though his body is from Krypton. MM has spent a long time -- centuries in some versions -- growing up in an incredibly old world that is utterly foreign, both culturally and physically, and it is just one sign of that that their fire is rare and experienced as nuclear-scale dangerous. (In fact, it's probably a Mars from a parallel world, for many other obvious reasons.) Also, focus on the fact that he is mercurial down to his essence. He has switched worlds and cultures, for one thing. Secondly, push the telepathy, and emphasize that empathizing with others, reading them and influencing them, is to him a change in his own nature (much like grokking for Heinlein's Martian Michael Smith). Thirdly, emphasize his shape-shifting but leave unclear, even to him, how much of that is influenced perception and how much is physical change. All of those things come back to the same theme: Here is a guy of whom everyone, including himself, is perpetually unsure. Of course, all of the perception/body-shifting stuff is perfect for comics as a medium in the first place, so you get to play with all you've got if only you decide to do so. (Ideally, you never have any one panel that makes you think, "so this is what he really looks like", and the stupid costume just appears as one joke at the side when he tries to look like a Terran superhero).
More Harley Quinn on the way with her own spinoff film. http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/43062/a-harley-quinn-spin-off-movie-planned
Between this, and them giving more and more creative power to Affleck, they've shown they know how to course correct.
That's probably a really good sign for Suicide Squad if there's serious talk about spinning off her character in another flick.
