Finally got around to "Black Adam". I didn't hate it.
I was expecting "Bloodshot" level bad. Nah, it easily whups "Bloodshot".
Better than Suicide Squad 1.
Better than "Wonder Woman 1984".
I'd put it in "Aquaman" territory.
Maybe even almost "The Suicide Squad" territory.
Which is blasphemy if you loved "The Suicide Squad" but I didn't love it.
So, yeah.

There are a lot of things about Black Adam that I wish were different.

They went out of their way to make the Rock, one of the coolest and funniest actors out there and have him play a dour and humorless character.

They introduced Eternium as a quasi-Kryptonite for Black Adam but despite it being Intergang's reason for being in Khandaq and despite the bad guy getting his powers from a crown made with it, basically had that disappear after he was wounded with a rocket used of it, and never had Black Adam encounter a threat that suggested for a second he might be in danger.

They went out of their way to create the "Black Adam wasn't the one originally gifted by the Wizard; his son was" twist (even though it kinda contradicts Shazam).

They introduced the Justice Society, which for some reason had each member try to solo Black Adam (which it was pretty obvious they couldn't do) instead of working together as a team and which took up precious time that could have been used to build up Black Adam or the villain or on any number of other things.

They had Black Adam surrender and revert to his human version for no meaningful reason.

Another pass at the script and someone telling the Rock that he can't just have Black Adam basically not be challenged throughout the movie would have upgraded it from like a B- to a B+.

Except Corneswet needs to change his name. What a fucking awful surname. Sounds like an STD. He needs a better stage name.

DC without Gunn to steer it was like Catholicism, Protestantism, Mormonism, and Scientology locked into a wrestling cage, and the ring announcer trying to sort out their mythologies as they hit each other with chairs.

So anyone catch or plan to catch Aquaman in theater? Nothing about the movie makes me want to pay $20 to do so, but when it hits streaming in about four months, I'll probably check it out.
