You know what these damn stores have got to start getting a better grip on this crap.

Now I feel sorry for the guy but I see a mass of people bum rushing me I'm not going to try and stop them. I'm getting the fuck out of the way.

Would it destroy the store's business to extend their Black Friday sales over the course of a week, so this shit doesn't happen?

This would be the closest Wal-Mart to where I live, just over the border in Nassau County. Glad I don't know anyone who actually shops there . . .

My son's good friend (he's staying with us temporarily as a matter-of-fact)
works as an overnight stock clerk at Walmart. I guess we can add this occupation to the "convenience store workers + cab drivers" list of dangerous occupations here in America. :jayzus:

The sales do go over the week.

The problem is the door buster sales. The ones that are only a few yours.

Plus everyone knows they only carry so much of each item. If you want one of ten 'X' then you better be running.

Down here everyone lines up and waits. Some stores they won't let them rush in like the above story. Some even go so far as to let only a handful in at a time.

Down here it's more of getting line position then it is rushing in the store.

The store didn't force those consumerist lemming sociopaths to trample each other. They made that choice on their own. Someone should have called the cops immediately, reviewed the security tapes, and held these motherfuckers accountable.

BTW - it's hard to make fun of the Muslims trampling themselves every year during their trip to Mecca when this shit happens in our own country.

I guess both types get too fanatical over their gods (Allah and cheap material things). :salute:

Black Friday is not for pussies.

    Combat shoppers only, please! :bergman:

I stay well away from all retail stores on Black Friday. In fact, all of T-giving weekend. I can handle home intruders and carjackers, but do not put me in the path of 100 women armed with shopping carts, credit carts, checkbooks, and that 'gleam' in their eye on Black Friday. That way lies defeat and a painful death.

    You're only partially right.

The store setup the conditions for this disaster. On purpose. Limited stock of the "hot" items, limited hours within which to buy these door busters, lack of any type of security presence, and inadequate control of their doors.

As soon as they saw that mass out there acting like idiots they should have shut the gates on the doors and called the cops. Instead they probably just stood there like idiots looking at idiots.

And the cops were called and I'm sure they are reviewing the tape and reviewing the cash register tapes to see if they can match names with tramplers. (through card info)

Stores have trained customers to rush in at full speed others be damned. Trained them to act like wild animals.

It's not the store's job to protect people from their own stupidity. "Trained" or not, the customers had a choice, and they are the only ones responsible for their decisions.

I'm not saying they aren't chowderhead. :dayton:

Of course those people are responsible for their own actions.

I am saying that the store is also responsible for setting up the scenario.

This doesn't happen when a store makes people line up outside. It only happens at stores where they let everyone sit at the door.

Bullshit. The store might as well have mined its entrance and put up a sign saying "Please do not step on the land mines!" If you glue a loaded automatic weapon in the hands of an epileptic and hide his medication so he goes into a seizure, you're responsible when people get shot.

And I'm saying that's more bullshit nanny-ism aimed at grown fucking adults. If you need an outside party to force you to act like you have a conscience, the problem in need of attention is you, not them.

It also doesn't happen when people behave like semi-civilized human beings, and no outside intervention is necessary for them to make that choice.

This was probably in the Green Acres shopping mall, Valley Stream. A pathetic display.

If so, the whole place is a ghetto, no surprise it's at the fringe border of NYC. Trampling a man to death is not behavior far outside the ordinary for this neighborhood. Young people used to die pretty often (drug-related violence, etc.) at the Green Acres mall. No Eddie Albert or Zsa Zsa Gabor found in these green fields.

I actually lived in Valley Stream until I was 7, around 1970, when my family moved further east into Nassau - because Valley Stream was becoming a ghetto. Glad I got out - never really looked back, but drove through around 10 years ago. Actually, I used to consider it a shithole, but it upgraded to ghetto in the 90s.

Oh, fuck off with that big steaming load. :turd:

    :jayzus:
These people were not mentally ill or in any way unable to control their own actions. That is the one and only pertinent detail. It doesn't matter if the store lined the walls with battle axes and anti-tank rockets, the responsibility still lies solely with the person who decides to pick one up and hurt somebody.

It's not bullshit nanny-ism to say that a store should take better precautions to protect itself, its employees and its customers.

And you should fucking know by now even in your pathetic short life that most people act like animals and yes need to be forced to behave. Especially when they gather in crowds (which can quickly turn into a mob like it did in this store).

I suggest you read up on crowds and mobs and how they operate. The "group think" quickly replaces the individual and the mob acts on its own.

What could this Wal-Mart done differently? Every Wal-Mart had sales like this, yet this was the only one with a fatality. Nor was anyone killed at a Target, Best Buy, etc.

In this case, the fault lies squarely with this crowd, so UA is correct. The store probably did take all necessary precautions, as handed down from corporate HQ. After all, retailers have experience with crowds like this and know how to handle it. In this case, the crowd mentality overwhelmed the employees. When that happens, nothing short of shooting the rioters will restore order.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it."

    http://thehistorybox.com/ny_city/riots/riots_article1a.htm

    Mob

Psychologically, a group of people in direct contact who strongly interact upon each other and act under the influence of suggestion and emotion rather than of reason. A crowd may be said to be more stable than a mob and also to lack its intense common emotional element. However, under conditions of stress or danger, a crowd may quickly turn into a mob. Throughout history, fervent and often hysterical leaders have succeeded in driving crowds to acts of mob like heroism as well as to extreme brutality. In a mob the individual is in a state of heightened suggestibility not unlike that prevailing in hypnosis. Differing from the isolated individual, the member of the mob, by reason of his loss of controlling inhibitions, is capable of behaving in a manner foreign to his everyday manner.

And I call bullshit on you, too. People get trampled all the time at events like this. They may not usually die, and it may not usually be at Wal-Mart, but it's a regular occurrence that simply doesn't happen at properly organized sales. The store is clearly negligent, by any standard that can possibly be applied.

Only retards think that the fact that the store is responsible is somehow incompatible with the idea that the idiots lined up are responsible as well.

You do what they do down here. You make them get in line. And you have police presence before you open the doors. Especially if you are in an area that is known for it's unruly customers.

It works. Crowd control measures work but you have to implement them or else you run the risk of the crowd turning into a mob.

What you just said there is worse than retarded.

In fact it's the players that were at fault, not the field.

Shit, I was trying to buy a pumpkin pie at Costco on Wednesday and I got jostled and run into by shopping carts.

Finally, after the last one I said "FUCK! :ualbert:" pretty loudly and people gave me a wide berth.

What about the idiots who made the field?

No one is saying the shoppers aren't at fault. They are.

What is being said is the store is at fault as well.

Is the same field used all over the country?

How come it's just the ghetto players that killed another?
