You have any actual evidence any of them are not guilty or that there were irregularities in their trials?

Because statistically the death penalty is not a deterrent to others intent on these crimes, and because it costs more to execute a criminal than to give him a life sentence.

    Prove me wrong. :bailey:

Someone who is executed will never murder anyone ever again. People serving life in prison have murdered people after being incarcerated.

    Prove me wrong.

    1) the state should not have the power to execute people because it has historically and contemporaneously abused that power, especially given the many exonerations in recent years from organizations like the Innocence Project
    2) the death penalty is not a deterrence
    3) life in prison is a far harsher sentence than non existence
    4) the chemicals used for executions have a tendency to cause massive amounts of pain in those being executed, and the inmate is completely paralyzed as this painful death slowly kills him or her
    5) kill yourself and then your family

No. You are a two faced dishonest person who routinely feigns friendship then stabs people in the back. And you routinely argue in an intellectually dishonest manner.

We have concentration camps, and now we're bringing back the death penalty on the federal level. There's no way this could go wrong.

You do realize one would hope that the nations that have retained the death are among the most populous nations on Earth. In fact I'm not sure if a nation with more than 100 million in population has done away with the death penalty. Which would indicate that the death penalty is a vital component for social justice and order.

Dayton as usual acts as if he's never heard any of the arguments against his own position before.

    Perhaps he should be executed.

No, let the punishment fit the crime: tie him to a chair, tape his eyelids open, and run Pauly Shore's "Bio-Dome" on a loop for 7 days straight, while occasionally flashing the lights repeatedly and having a loudspeaker repeat the phrase "How ya doin' buh-ddy?!" over and over again.

    We did this recently.

Re offending rates for murder is very low indeed and limited to a specific subset of high risk offenders, a subset who can be dealt with within a hospital environment.

All prison inmates have a high chance of going on to commit further crimes, but the likelihood of committing murder (especially where the first offence had a financial motive) following a murder conviction is actually very low for several reasons. I've not got the figures to hand and am too tired to go hunting but according to some studies the offending risks are actually lower than the general population. In terms of pubic safety around re offending there's no real case for the DP.

It's simply not an effective deterrent (arguably less effective than incarceration) and the appeals process relating to death penalties is extremely expensive and throughout that process you are still paying to keep the offender incarcerated, so there's no financial argument or case for crime reduction.

    Put simply, it doesn't work.

Treat people like they're unthinking animals, and they'll become like unthinking animals. Treat them as if their lives don't matter, and eventually they'll believe it and act accordingly.

    ...what?

As for cases where we all "know" they are definitely guilty and deserve it, not getting to satisfy our blood lust is the cost of having a fairer justice system.
