    Let's see...

There was this one, that got a dumb and a TLDR:

This one, which got a funny rep:

Not seeing a relatively recent post mentioning Feinstein other than those.

Okay so it was a dumb rep instead of fantasy. Still the same poster with the same three or four neg reps too cowardly to actually respond with anything other his clown routine.

She has obviously suffered from debilitating conditions. Admittedlu I think she is a cunt, but she should step aside and enjoy the rest of her days in comfort. As should Trump, Biden, Bernie, Lady Greham, and many others.

Ih, and someone check if @Tuckerfan is ok after having to admit she might be failing something. His butt seems to be overly empathetic to comments on her condition.

Sometimes, and always for some people, why spend minutes spelling out why a comment is dumb when a rep will do it in a fraction of that time?

    For instance:
    1. Democrats don't want senile people in government any more than anyone else, and Democrats aren't a monolith.

    2. Of the people that you named, Feinstein is the only one who is arguably/presumptively senile and I'm pretty sure no one particularly wants her to stay around.

    3. RBG wasn't senile AFAIK, she just was physically ill. I'm pretty sure that one could find examples of plenty of Democrats prior to her death calling for her to resign while there was a Democrat in office so that her replacement would not be someone like ACB.
    For instance:
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...-who-want-her-to-retire-idUSKBN0G12V020140801

    But alas, she did not.

    4. Calling Fetterman "Fetterwoman" is obnoxious and childlike, even if he inadvertently did it himself. ETA: he apparently did it to make a point of how valuable women voters and the right to choose are. Recovering from a stroke has nothing to do with cognitive function necessarily, and is not senility by a long shot.

    5. Biden has been stumbling over his words for pretty much his entire political career. Yes, he makes mistakes and is a gaffe machine. Still a far cry from senility. That said, a lot of Democrats would love it if he doesn't run again.

Feinstein has written to request she be 'temporarily' replaced on the committee so work can continue. Great.

She should be expelled IMO. But she won't be, because neither side will do such a thing. Lots of them want to be Feinstein some day.

Unfortunately there is no way for a state to recall a seated Congressperson due to the US Constitution, even for medical issues or mental competence.

This is something RBG was doing, too. Her health was failing, but she refused to step down. In this system, term limits make sense. No position should guarantee lifetime appointment, and all should have age/mental health barriers. The moment you have to start taking dementia medication, for example, is when you abdicate your seat.

While I disagree with lifetime appointments, do not bitch about RBG doing her fucking job for as long as she could. Its hardly her fault Boomers sold out and Gen Xers are apathetic assholes and allowed our government to be corrupted. RBG did more for your rights than anyone you might hold on high.

Right up to the point where her ego kept her from stepping down during a Democratic president to help preserve her ideals in the future.

We should learn from that, not excuse it. It's possible to understand the tremendous positive impact Ginsberg made while also acknowledging the enormous mistake she made at the end that lead to directly to Roe being overturned.

Would you bitch about an old man working in the fields until he dies?

As I said, it’s hardly her fault the citizens of this country destroyed it. She fought for it to the very end despite.

    1. Could have fooled me on both.
    2. Close enough.
    3. Maybe not senile, but clearly should have stepped down.
    4. What a bigoted response. I thought we were supposed to call people by the names they want to be called?
    5. Have you seen him when he finishes speeches then wanders off aimlessly until his handlers tell him where to go? I would show you video evidence, but I know everyone feels about that.

Not at all the same thing. RBG could have stepped down, there are dozens of immensely qualified people that could have replaced her.

And there was always a chance that someone else would win the next presidency. She knew that. She gambled - we all lost.

And now we have Handmaid Amy on the bench for the next 25 years, at least.

No, she should have stepped down sooner. She could have stepped down when she was 83 and Obama was still in office, while she still had some of her health left. She didn't. That is on her. I don't lionize people for maintaining power, especially here when she had the chance to bring in someone ideologically similar but chose to hold on until death, letting the fucking asshole that is Trump appoint her replacement. She had opportunities, responsibilities, and she chose her desire to stay over what was good for everyone else. Feinstein is doing the same. She's clutching at her job when she should have already worked to find a successor who could take the reins. Fuck these selfish old assholes who can't dream of a world without them and without their grasp of power.

Term limits are problematic unless they are LONG because it shifts power to staff (which is likely what's going on with DiFi - one step removed from Weekend at Bernies) - if we're talking, say, 12 in the House and 18 in the Senate, or 18 in either with a max of 30 in Congress total or something like that, it's fine.

But what they need is an AGE limit.

Something like "if you have or will turn 80 before you are sworn in for the term which you propose to seek, you may not run."

I agree with this more than the one where you brought in ego. She never gave the appearance of egotism.

Indeed, her motivation was likely idealistic - to allow the first woman president to replace her. Which ended badly. But i don't think ego was involved.

thing is, from what NPR reported, Schumer needs Republic cooperation to replace her on the committee even temporarily. I'd have thought that as party leader it was just on his say so but apparently they need unanimous consent or it gets complicated. And we all know about Rand Paul.

I'd argue that caring more about the symbolism of allowing the first woman president to replace her was indeed about ego.

But ultimately irrelevant - it was no doubt very bad judgement on her part, whatever motivated her.
