I was wondering; who reads spoilers here, and if so, why? If I really like a show, I'll NEVER read spoilers, I want to watch it as the writers intended (although ideally without having to wait a week!). I just feel like removing the surprises is just a step worse than sitting there with someone saying 'oh I bet thats going to happen oh and that oh theres no way he's not a robot'. etc (admittedly, I do that a bit, but only when I'm sure, so I can prove how I knew it all along!). When I watch tv with someone who's seen the episode already, I always warn them that I'll kick them if they tell me what happens, even if I ask questions. The only time I read spoilers is for trashy soaps, because I want to know if it's going to be a good episode or a filler episode that I can ignore. I know some people here read everything they can about a show, all the spoilers, all the interviews with the makers that say where they're going with it etc, and i was simply wondering... why?
Same here, surprise is key to any worthwhile production. In fact I'd say surprise is the most valuable quality of any TV show or movie. So often it is all too predictable, a plot twist you didn't see coming is refreshing and always welcome. Spoiler readers tend to fall within three categories, fans who just can't get enough, folks who aren't fans but want to know a story's end and assbags who feel superior because they know what other people don't know. Only the assbags are annoying to me because their only means of establishing their superior knowledge is to spoil a story for other folks regardless of their desire to know said spoilers.
I hate spoilers. I love to be in the moment and be surprised. I have a friend who seeks out spoilers, reads leaked scripts, etc. I ask him how he can enjoy the show/movie when he knows what's going to happen. he says he enjoys seeing how they filmed what he read. I think he's nuts.
I used to not care about spoilers and would read them whenever I could. Now, I prefer to not know what's going to happen before I see the movie or teevee show. I still don't mind mild, "generic"-type spoilers, but I don't want a play-by-play of what I'm about to see.
The first and last script I read prior to seeing the movie was Star Trek: Nemesis. I think that's enough to turn anyone off spoilers.
I only read spoilers for shows I don't really care about, to see if there's something worthwhile coming. Back when they were running, I avoided spoilers for DS9, but always read spoilers for Voyager.
It depends on the project. Some shows / movies are things that I really want to see, and I'll avoid too much information on those 'til I've seen them. Others, I may be merely curious and tend to read up to see if it's something I'd be interested in.
