Yeah, but that's a sparacus thread. He's hilarious, even if he does go over the top in his quest to be seen as "controversial".

I notice he's stopped doing threads about what the folk at Moopy thought of the show. Those were good, with his talk of the "young, vibrant, thrusting posters of Moopy and how the show really needs to be reaching people like that".

    Thrusting?

 Colour me dense, but I didn't even notice the kitten saying 'Mama' until Confidential...
At which point daughter gave me the look I'd given her at leaping to the wrong conclusion about the Last Words... :(

Hmmm, yeah I'd already read about that but it does seem a little stupid - granted it's a clear TUNE IN FOR TEH COOLNESS!!!! trick but still...

Sorry to necromance this but a question occured.

Was there ever any explanation in this episode of how/why the Macra were there and was the whole fast lane thing just part of the confusion - there was no sinister element at work?

No explanation as far as i know. I think they just wanted something sinister right at the bottom and an old enemy fit the bill. They didnt say how they got there, maybe this will be explained later.....

That's what I thought - RTD was setting up something for the next series.

I figured they were just there as the generic "nasty in the sewers", with the added RTD irony that the "privileged" class who got into the fast lane were actually going to their doom...

He said they were the big bad a few billion years before and then disappeared.

Well he was talking generally, not about New Earth. Generally they were the big bad, ala that episode where he encountered them before.

I can accept it without further explanation, I just realised afterwards that the whole 'fast lane' concept was a classic 'some sinister going on' ploy. But actually the people being sent down to the fast lane weren't being sent maliciously, just by the automated system.

He said they used humans as slaves billions of years ago but had seemed to have devolved to smog sucking crabs.
