Non mutating protein in virus located

If these trials prove conclusive, there will be a cure for HIV. Doctors have isolated the one protein in the virus that doesn't mutate, and they have something called an abzyme that has destroyed the virus in lab tests. What a gift for humanity, and for Africa in particular. Please let these trials work. :)

Let's hope it works and that the side effects created by the treatment aren't as bad or worse than the disease itself.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Govt's had this cure for years, but only decided to wait till now to make it avaliable to the general masses.

I hear they have a cure for Crack Addiction too..(that they also pretend doesn't exist)

That would be fantastic news from every point of view.
Apart from all the obvious reasons...HIV takes tons and tons of conventional drugs to keep it in check (the guy in the article takes 20 expensive pills per day), it would be nice to see those resources freed up to be spent on other diseases/syndromes

Oh sure, I've seen this movie before.

    First the "cure".

Then like 75% of us die right off.

    20% become zombie-vampire thingies.

5% are immune, but get eaten by the zombie-vampires.

Then Will Smith dies for no good reason. (Something about a butterfly.)

I'm on to them! And I want my 8 bucks back!

It seems like one of these HIV/Cancer/disease of the month cures appears in the news every few weeks only to disappear straight away. This is promising though...

    Color me cautiously optimistic.

Is that before or after someone goes back in time and steps on a butterfly?

(Hey, you think in that episode of TNG - any crew members got *eaten*!? Must have. And on a ship full of *children* and families! How many people came back to find they'd eaten (or worse) a kid or wife or something!?
I mean, that was some fucked-up shit there.
And what about that nurse's baby, was it lost for good?
And how could we devolve into spiders anyway!? They aren't even in our evolutionary line!!! Like their ancestors split from ours at least in the pre-Cambrian, right!?)

    Maybe it was all three...

Neville/Price: "Whosever shall be found, without the soul for getting down..."
Neville/Heston: "...is a damned, dirty vampire! The city's crawling with them!"
    Neville/Smith: "Aw, hell no!"

I'm with Bailey -- I still remember Paul Harvey waxing orgasmic about the HIV vaccine Jonas Salk had developed. This was 20 years ago, and we still have treatment without cure. I'll be ecstatic if this idea works, but I'm not buying balloons and party hats just yet.
