Via Wonkette: Eddie Izzard is running for British Congress (we know it is called something different in the United Kingdom, like the "Pip Pip Argumentating Circle" or something) and she has the most delightful announcement video ever. https://www.wonkette.com/eddie-izzard-running-for-labour-mp-parliament Looks like her constituency is pretty solidly Labour, though I have no idea how likely she is to be nominated (and even had to go look up whether the UK has primaries, to which apparently the answer is no) ... any members of Britforge want to jump in with some speculation?
I'm curious if this is a contested seat or one that is secure for either party. I seem to remember that in the past would be candidates were expected to make a run in one of the other parties safe ridings. (Is that the right term?) Before moving on to challenge for a seat that was either a safe seat for their party or at least a seat that might be a toss up. I also seem to recall that candidates used to not have to live in the district they were running in, but since it's been a long time since I recall hearing that and of course, things might have changed anyway, I would appreciate anyone who actually knows what they're talking about could set me straight...(in a manner of speaking)
