Jumping off a cliff carries the risk of not quite managing to kill yourself and instead living a long and miserable life in a hospital bed eating through a tube.

Speaking of gallows humor at Fort Rucker I knew a guy who shot himself. He only had two or three years to retirement, a long career after that as a contractor if he wanted it, a wife and two great sons, etc. etc.

I would avoid pills myself. From what I can see it is not terribly reliable as the body might vomit or somehow survive. It is also slow and allows for rescue. If you are going to go the painkiller route just get a crapload of heroin and slam that shit into a vein. Really, you don't want to wake up to massive organ failure and some brain damage.

Anything in your brain that can override the "stay alive" mechanism has to go, sooner versus later. No other species does this unless it's a ploy to lure predators away from the rest of the group or something.

I don't think we have cliffs in the Ramapos. They're the gentle-rolling Appalachian kind of mountains. Best I could probably manage is a 15 foot drop onto a moss bed and a long roll downhill.

Here's a view from halfway up the 'ridge' I live on looking west across to the next ridge. Not much in the way of cliffs. Just forest over there, no roads, and a couple of miles until the next town.
