My server is the dns server for all systems in the office. Just to make sure... if everyone can get on the web and browse, my dns server is obviously working, right?

So why the )(&@#%)& are all my user's emails not being automatically sent? Why in my smtp queu do all the messages say "Scheduled" and not automatically send? WHy are they making apostle force send them?

    This is bs. Help me!

Ok now its been a couple of years since I actually did this, but IIRC, the dns server on your local lan is only there for intraoffice IP traffic (say from a desktop to a printer). Internet access is totally seperate from the DNS server. See each computer is knows (either through learning via DHCP or having a static address configured) that every time it sends out traffic, that traffic goes to your switch and router. The router then decides if the destination is on your LAN or if the packet needs to be routed to the outside world.

So its a problem with the mail server settings, and that I cant help you with? have you thought of kicking the shit out of the server?

Well what I think it was was simply that our static ip didn't have any dns records associated with it. We had comcast create a reverse dns entry so that servers can essentially authenticate that the email's we're sending aren't spam. Hopefully when that propogates they'll just accept the messages and I won't have to do a "force connection."

The BAD news is that I am now dealing with a bad windows update last night on my server, and it's hanging on all reboots.

The ultimate server guru in Memphis is on his way out right now.

I'm frustrated because my vendor contracts out to him, so I pay inflated rates. I wish I could just figure out what company he is with and get him directly. :(

Amazing. A graphics driver slipped in with the "critical" updates.

A freaking graphics driver. Rolled it back, and we were fine.

    Re: **** Active Directory

We fixed earlier mentioned problems. Installed updates. Did not like updates. Rolled back in safe mode after a few unsuccessful reboots.

So, raid didn't like all those reboots. Fell back on global hotswap. For some reason, corrupted something.

    Now active directory is dead.

Waiting for guru to arrive. I will watch and learn how to rebuild active directory. I will have this knowledge, and never use it again. :bash:

I think just about everyone has to learn the hard way to have a test machine for updates.
