Performance updates are nice, no doubt, but you won't catch me on an old browser for the simple reason that the majority of updates are unseen security patches.

That said, if I remember correctly you use an old Windows 2000 box. I like being frugal myself, so I can appreciate that, but a lot of the improvements being made now are designed to take advantage of hardware.

You might benefit from a box upgrade if you have the G's to swing it, V.

Re: Browser Wars! FF4 Full Release, IE9, and Chrome

I have to say, I haven't been very impressed with the last few firefox builds. I think they are simply too slow when loading. I have primarily been using Google Chrome.

I do have to say though, Firefox for Android has really improved. I have extremely happy with it on both my Xoom and Droid X.

I think it is kind of funny that Google doesn't offer a version of Chrome for Android.

The main purpose of the firefox app is to sync information. All of the browsers for droids and iphones are built around the same core app.

I'm fairly certain the slow load time is a pause to check for updates, but I haven't been able to verify that yet.

I think you are right about the browsers on the droids and iphones. I'm not sure what the slow down at start up is. It might be the checking for updates, it could also be and probably is whatever plugin's you installed as well.

At least for me, Google Chrome is a cleaner running browser. Plus, it also works with my google voice.

Yahoo toolbar kept creeping into the earlier versions of FF. When I downloaded FF 4 I made damn sure that no toolbars were included.

That used to pisses me off. It would ask if you wanted the yahoo toolbar, you would tell it no and it still showed up.

It probably crept in when you installed adobe products.

I don't find the latest incarnation of Oprah to be that good either - but then again, I never understood the Oprah hype at all.

I'll take IE9 over Oprah any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

^^^Opera's (Oprah?) is fun just because the sucker is FAST! But it has so few features that it doesn't even meet my relatively simple needs.

Hmmm. Looks like Volpone said Oprah first and a play on words was created.

Opera actually is pretty innovative. They have come up with a lot of the features that all modern browsers have.

But sadly they use their own rendering engine and have a tiny tiny user base so they have by far the most rendering bugs (not necessarily their fault; nobody tests their sites for Opera).

I wonder if Oprah is a required browser for Oprah's staff.
