Is it appropriate for those on food stamps or EBT to be able to purchase fast food using the taxpayer money?

Doesn't this type of allowance contradict the President and his wifes claim that they want people to eat healthy?

What eating establishment should take food stamps, in your opinion, if any?

I've never seen it, but maybe K1A frequents more fast food places than I do.

Wanting people to eat healthy isn't the same as forcing them to eat healthy.

But if you're in favour of people eating healthy, do you also support giving out more food stamps so the poor can shop at the pricey organic stores?
No, Kirk's still as stupid as ever. :borg:

there's one pizza place not far from here that I saw had a big sign up that said they accept EBT, my first question was "Is that legal?"

    Maybe...but he's right this time:

    Ugh.

I want to say no just because of the apparent and rampant greed fast food places are showing here. :jayzus:

Eh, I can see the argument for allowing it when it comes to homeless people. They can't really cook.

Well, one grocery store I worked at used to have homeless guys come in to buy Cup Noodles, but they were still going to the McDonalds across the street to ask for the boiling water.

All the grocery stores around here have delis, prepared foods and salad bars...why can't they buy prepared foods at the supermarket?

For example, a whole, roasted seasoned chicken goes for $6.00 and could feed someone for awhile...and they are actually tasty, too.

It would have to be healthier than fast food.

So the question becomes whether the OP is a demand for bigger government to police food purchases by the poor, or a call for volunteers to spy on their neighbors. :chris:

That's correct. A perfectly legitimate technique designed to challenge someone to come up with a third alternative.

    You were challenged. You whiffed.

Now's your opportunity to try again.

Can't speak for elsewhere but here, food in a hot deli is not EBT eligible, but cold food - even the exact same food - is.

For instance: Deli serves hot chicken, fried and wings and so forth...a few steps away you can by the same chicken, cooked but cold, and the latter is EBT eligible and the former is not.

I, for one, don't have a problem with allowing EBT usage for hot prepared food IF the HHS office has a firm understanding that the recipient is in face homeless and with penalties applied for not reporting when the situation is otherwise. But you probably would have to issue a special card which they had to turn in when the situation changed.

If that was why you were doing it, it might be considered legitimate. A shame that's not why.

In any case, the simple solution is to use the existing infrastructure, alter the database to restrict EBT cards (or whatever they're called) from being used at fast food joints, and not expand the government or require spying. The process of updating "lookup tables" is done daily by retail businesses for credit and membership cards, there's no reason why the government can't do the same.

Have you ever in your time here or at TBBS started to post something, stopped and thought 'Nah, I should probably just shut the fuck up this time'?

    Ever?

Have you ever taken your own advice? Ever?

Ah, so now *you're* telling *me* what I'm thinking. Got it.

Now if only KIRK had been able to think of that...

    Often.

Seriously, you need to start shutting the fuck up. You've taken the condescending, smug cunt routine way overboard lately. You should be embarrased.

The thing is you can "eat healthy" or "eat unhealthy" at almost any eating establishment of any kind if you really want to.
