http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2012920634_eusummit17.html Have to give a bit of credit to the frogs on this one, they're sticking with their guns and telling the Eurocrats where to go. Other Europeans states, notably the UK, would never dare defy Brussels by so blatantly annoying the leftist elite in the EU.
If you set up third world hovels in the bottom of peoples gardens, then chances are the locals are going get pissed off with you before too long. Add in that the French have experience about what happens when you have an insular groups creating their own cultural enclaves, and this kind of thing was always on the cards. There are three basic rules when emigrating: 1) You accommodate your culture to your hosts, not the other way around 2) You don't import your own laws and seem shocked when your hosts take umbrage at that 3) You make an effort to integrate with your hosts various communities Ignore those three, and you can expect to be made distinctly unwelcome.
So the argument goes something like this: France: Look these gypsies... EU: Gypsies are a derogatory term. Call them Roma. France...Roma are trashing France. EU: Yes, but it's their cultural heritage to do so. You must let them live their lives as they see fit. France: Fuck that. We're sending them back from whence they came. EU: You can't. That's just like the Holocaust! France: Is that about right?
That's it in a nutshell. Citizens from Romania cannot stay in France if they are unable to obtain a work permit or residency after 3 months. So the French are quite rightly deporting such people back home. They're giving them some money and a free ride back to a fellow EU country. Hardly Nazi-style actions. The Eurocrats (predictably from minor, unimportant members within the EU) have been slaughtering France but curiously do or say absolutely nothing to Romania, the very country from which the gypsies are fleeing, and where they have been treated like shit for decades. As far as I'm concerned, viva la France!
Once again we see the left howling and ranting when laws are enforced that they don't like. Nothing new here. A French president with balls is certainly a new thing.
They've tried that before, the result ought to be similar - a Gallic shrug, two fingers to the EU and keep on going...
Suing them for what exactly? For refusing to host vagrant tent-villages? What are they supposed to do? Give them free housing and food? Support them until the indeterminate point they are able to support themselves?
Racism, basically. Apparently, in a memo to those charged with getting rid of the camps of illegals, there was a specific mention along the lines of "especially the Romas." That was in there, of course, because they are the particular problem, but it was interpreted as a racist singling out of a particular group.
How many of these Gypos do you know? Have you spent time amongs their people, or dated any of them, you racist arse?
A country in Europe targeting gypsies and passing laws that target an unpopular religious minority? Oh yeah, that'll end well.
This smells soo much like a publicity stunt by Sarko, who isn't exactly well liked by most of the French (to put it mildly) and was just in the middle of having to deal with some decent scandals in his administration on the one hand and an unpopular pensions' reform on the other when this Roma situation took off. The level of embarrassment my French friends display when talking about him is kind of approaching the one my Italian friends have for Berlusconi, which I think is just about as high as it can get.
The French have been growing a lot of balls lately. First in dealing with the Durka's and now this! If they keep growing this many balls each week, they might be able to make up for their previously poor fertility rates.
Jeez, has humour lost its value on this board? So we can joke at the expense of blacks, but not Roma? That said, the only decent Romanias I have encountered have been regular Romanians. Whereas the vast majority of Roma Gypsies oin the UK are part of organised crime, and that is statistical fact, not my opinion. This is further compounded by Romania's entry into the EEA with compounded our ability to deal with them as we can now only remove them if they receive criminal convictions.....which is all the more reason why it is pleasing that Sarkosy is standing firm on this issue. As for your apparently emotional reaction......well I think we just learned something about your life....... EDIT: Its also worth pointing out that if the Roma in France are either not economically active and paying tax, or are not financially self sufficient by legitimate means (including having private medical insurance) then they are in breach of the EEA Regulations and have no right to be there. Free movement os one thing, but living in another EEA member state comes with rules. If the Roma are in breach, which seems likely if they are in illegal camps, then their removal is perfectly legitimate under the law and it really has nothing to do with them being targetted for their ethnicity.
I thought so. It is ironic that you would mock one group and classify them so narrowly while arguing so frequently and passionately that the same not be done to another group.
What are you talking about? Iranians? Apostle, in case you haven't spotted the threads about Iranians aren't mocking, they are serious. Anyhow, see my edit above as to why the French are perfectly entitled to do this and why it is not racial profiling. I have no problem with Roma who operate legally and as part of society. I do have problems with Roma who are illegal and criminals, which statistically they are in the UK and, for the reasons of legallity I have given above, the Roma in the French camps are almost certainly not excercising their treaty obligations under the EEA Regulations.
We mock Iranians all the time here. Yes, there is serious discussion, since the Western World is trying to determine whether we want to let Iran continue to exist. Let's assume you're right, and there is no mockery of Iran, and that the discussion is 100% serious. That means you're being worse than what you constantly bitch and moan about.
