You wouldn't recognize the truth if it slapped you in your whore mouth. Good thing your parents are dead so they don't have to see what a disgrace you've become. Regardless, I'm pretty sure I've said before that Kavanaugh should have been disqualified by his childish, emotional, and highly unprofessional testimony before the Senate, not the accusations themselves. Not to mention his shameless and pointless lies about stuff like "the devil's triangle" that prove he lacks integrity. I never posted "Good thing your parents are dead so they don't have to see what a disgrace you've become." My calender from that day clearly shows I was studying with Squee at the time.
Having seen the Justice System operate from within and without, you couldn't pour that job on me. That level of responsibility would be unbearable.
SCOTUSblog thinks the shortlist is California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger and D.C. Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. I don’t know anything about Jackson other than that she was recently confirmed and so will likely have no trouble in the Senate. The (syndicated) article SB posted on Kruger was pretty glowing, but I thought there was a decision out of SCOCA with her name on it that I thought was dangerously wrong, but I can’t remember what, and I’m second guessing myself because I could have sworn the first name of the Justice I was thinking of was Leona, not Leondra. More research needed.
He has not even nominated anyone yet and the reps are already bitching. I am wondering why we are even pretending it is Biden's choice when we know it is munchkin and sinema who are president.
What's the big deal? A liberal justice is retiring and will be replaced by another liberal. The balance of the court will not change. There are enough Ds in Congress that they should be able to get the nominee (whoever it turns out to be) confirmed without any R votes. This would be a much bigger story if one of the conservative justices was heading out.
Biden promised to nominate a black woman, that's enough to make plenty of Rs shit themselves in terror. What if it's Michelle Obama
It could get juicier if Biden nominates someone seen as a liberal activist, and Manchin's and Sinema's constituencies push back.
Why? Manchin gives zero fucks about his constituency (Big Coal is NOT his constituency). And Sinema doesn't even know what fucking planet she's on, let alone which state she represents.
If Manchin continues to make trouble, the Democratic Party will make trouble for him. He chose his hill to die on, he will not block a supreme court nominee unless he wants to run as a Republican for his next term.
Democrats in West Virginia are pretty conservative; Manchin's positions aren't unpopular with them. He's taking stands that are more likely to get him re-elected, not less. But it's not altogether impossible he would switch parties, either. If (as seems likely) the GOP takes the Senate in November, it might be to his advantage. I'm sure the GOP would reward him well.
How? As I understand it, Manchin won based on his own reputation in West Virginia, not because he ran with a D next to his name. If he formally jumped ship he'd probably win with a higher percentage of the vote next time. Nah. I keep hearing that lots of the stuff he opposes is actually supported by a majority of voters in West Virginia. It's this biggest donors and his own investment portfolio that drive his positions.
Politics in the US have less to do with what the people want and more to do with what the money wants. Both parties are more powerful than the people when it comes to who gets campaign funding and who gets nominated. If Manchin doesn't follow party lines, the party will not support him.
It's hard to imagine today's radicalized Republican party accepting Joe Manchin. The very small handful of elected Republicans whose positions are similar to his have all been branded as RINO socialist traitors.
If he defects tomorrow and returns control of the Senate to the Republicans, I'm sure they'd be happy to overlook a lot.
It’s funny that you see the Republicans as the radicals when you have a communist in the Democratic Party who almost won the nomination for President.
It gives Biden a chance to throw some candy to the Dem base, before the midterms and when his popularity is sinking. He really needs it.
If you think Bernie Sanders is a communist, either you don't know who Bernie Sanders is, or you don't know what communism is. Heck, he's not even a socialist. I know he calls himself one, because he likes being a provocateur, but he's not.
