Am I the only one who thought Fury Road was vastly overrated?

Depends how high the hyperbole was being set, and by what critics.
Was it "the greatest movie in the world"?
    No, nothing is.
Was it one of the better if not best movies of 2015?
    Oh, Hell yeah.
No a hard bar to clear though.
    I enjoyed it immensely.
It's a movie that makes me happy, and that's all I ask.
If some other shmucks tried to make it a religion, well, fuck them.
    That never ends well.

While I thought it was a very solid actioner, you're right. It was over-rated.

I'm up for the prequel, though. I guess Charlize Theron aged out. :sob:

my son raved about but I only lasted about ten minutes watching it. The directing was just way, way too fast. and I couldn't track what was going on. Some people like relentless, fast cuts but it's not my cup of tea.

That's not fair! Liam Neeson is older than dirt and still kicks twenty asses per movie, minimum! And what about Sylvester Stallone?

Why is George Miller so insistant it has to be a prequel?
We fell in love with the Furiosa who went on the character journey of Fury Road.
    Let's go sequel!
    Why the Hell not?
Prequel is only carved in stone if the character died, but Furiosa made it, and had way more to do.

yeah... fuck that.. Theron is only 45 and a prequel is a shitty story concept. We know all we needed to about her backstory and anything that needs filling in can be done in a 5 minute flashback, not a whole gorram movie worth of one. I wanna know what happens with her and Hell's Grannies when they cross paths with Auntie Entity.

Anya T-J however, totally should be Tank Girl.

<Puffs the fancy assed boutique weed>

Why isn't there a Mad Max/Tank Girl crossover?

I saw it reported that Charlize was insulted when she was sought for the role of Hippolyta--Wonder Woman's mother--for the DCEU. Charlize is still fine (and so is Connie Nielsen, who ultimately got the role), but she needs to come to terms with the harsh reality that she's not going to be up for parts like Wonder Woman at her age. You finish playing Wonder Woman at 40, you don't start.

No slam on her, just reality. Gal Gadot is already several films into the DCEU and she's 10 years younger than Charlize is now.

What the heck did people expect? It's a MAD MAX movie, for crying out loud.

And it was a GOOD Max Max movie. It delivered.

Seriously, what were you thinking you were going to see?

I thought it was a good movie overall, and one of the best action films I've ever seen personally. Tom Hardy wasn't great as Max, that was about my only complaint, though he was OK. You couldn't sense the bubbling rage barely contained like Mel.

I haven't seen Fury Road, but other movies in 2015 include Spectre, The Martian, The Revenent, The Hateful 8, Bone Tomahawk, Jurassic World, Bridge of Spies, Mocking Jay pt. 2, TFA, MI: Rogue Nation, Ant-Man, Avengers 2, and Chappie.
I highly doubt it's better than at least one of those.

Fury Road IMHO was better than all of those except The Martian, Jurassic World, and MI: Rogue Nation.

I can say with confidence Fury Road eats the lunches of Spectre, Jurassic World, and Chappie.
It fucks Chappie's mom in front of him while he cries, then smokes a cigarette, and puts it out in his forehead.

Aw, no, Jurassic World was one of those that's great as you watch it, but goes stone cold as soon as you walk out of the theater.
And like fried mushrooms, it doesn't reheat well, gotta eat it fresh and hot, or you lose it forever.

Fury Road is like pizza, good hot or cold.

What little I remember about Chappie is the kind of hack writing where the characters have to come out and say what they are feeling and how they are motivated instead of demonstrating it with any kind of narrative skill. "I don't understand this! I am angry with you! I hate you!" :dayton:

I liked it as a reboot. I consider it a bit of a different story and vision entirely. The trilogy of mad max and the road warrior had their own vision of things. I think the reboot blew it up into a much more super man event rather than a bunch of really crazy guys. I always gotg the idea that the old mad max world was something a regular person could ride into if they were an insane tough guy with nothing to fear in death. Fury road was really super humans in a plot that used elements of mad max.

I really like the stylized insane chases of fury road and would certainly watch more, but that was not the mad max I loved. It is like JJTrek. I love the action and adventure. That had no relation to star trek of old aside from using it's name.

Holy shit. Are you sure you didn't catch teh COVID and suffer brain damage?

At least two of those films are vastly superior to Fury Road. I can't remember Chappie. I know I saw it so that's probably not a ringing endorsement.

I remember clicking on the movie because I was interested in what it was. I cannot recall anything about the movie after that. That is a very odd thing for me.

Look, I liked JW, but the idea behind Indominitus was stupid and the plot relied waaaaay too much on character stupidity to get the dino munching fun. (Compare it to Hammond's hubris and Nedry's work dissatisfaction in JP, and the difference should be obvious even to a high schooler).

Fury Road made narrative sense, albeit in an outlandish fashion.

A guy who was on the last subway train that stopped at the WTC on 9/11 said that the creepiest thing he saw was when they were getting out of the train and running for the exits were all the high heeled shoes on the ground. The women having stepped out of them so that they could run faster.
