FX network has new crime show debuting in a couple of weeks called Justified. It seems to have been created at least in part by Elmore Leonard, so it's got that goin' for it. Plus Shane from The Shield is one of the leads. The previews have got me interested enough to check it out, and I usually bail on cop shows anymore.

Thanks for this! This looks good enough for me to try it out.

The douchebag from The Shield was initially a deal break, but once I realized that Timothy Olyphant was the star, and then saw the trailer, the deal was back on.

It's got good people, and FX has a hell of a track record, I'm in for two.

I generally avoid commercial television like the plague. But sometimes there is still quality tv and you gotta pay up (like record and replay, or using the mute button).

I didn't know that FX has a good track record, but this caught my eye:
"created at least in part by Elmore Leonard."

I've been a fan of his books as top-notch escape crime drama/mystery, and I figure this guy must've had more books adapted to movies than even the master Stephen King, so I checked:

So, looks promising. [I'll leave it to a King fan to list the works of the much more prolific King.]

It looks good, but I probably won't watch it.

I'm taking a few nights off that week for my birthday, so I'll be at home with either my favorite pizza or big ol' bowl of popcorn for this show.

    Edit:
Looks like FX was originally going to call this show Lawman, but A&E and Steven Seagal beat 'em to the punch. Found another clip under that title...

    Ok, so who watched it?

I thought it was ok, but not quite as "gritty" as I expected it to be.

Still can't stand the jackass from "The Shield".

I liked it fine, but it didn't grab me like Burn Notice or Leverage did. I'm tuning in for the next few weeks, it may need time to come to a boil.

At least the cable channels GIVE a show a chance to get it right before pulling the plug.

Watched it tonight. Liked the style and presentation. Not sure how it will hold up over the long haul but I was impressed enough to want to find out.

    Liked it.

Seriously hope they get away from that silly nonsense about how if he pulls his gun he kills with it. (even though Boyd lived and I think he missed Boyd's heart on purpose) There's got to be times in his career that he's pulled it and not killed or even shot someone.

    Good show. Liked the humor.

The fake Cuban was hilarious though (if he was supposed to be Cuban).

OK, so five or six episodes in, and I'm liking it fine, Raylan has really grown on me, and I like the rest of Marshalls in the Lexington office too. Finally caught the L.A. episode on Hulu, and I gotta say that our Miami druglord is probably tired of Raylan killing his boys.

Yeah, it's a fun show. I like it! I haven't seen this last weeks episode yet as it's on the DVR and I haven't had time to check it out, but since I called in from work today, I think I'll be able to catch it.

Well, after tonight's episode, it's pretty obvious that Miami is, in fact, darned tired of Raylan offing their boys. Things look pretty interesting for next week when Boyd's daddy gets out of stir too.

Just wait 'til we hear that Raylan's linked to someone ripping off the Miami druglords, some character named "Chuck Finley".

    Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Kinda upset though that they made the Sheriff a bad guy. Kinda liked his character. Shame to see him go.

And that scene where the other inmate saw Raylan walk into the interview room with Boyd would have never happened in real life. That inmate would not have been in the area at the time of the visit. (but I can over look it)

Liked the hitman. I was hoping we'd get more rules on being a hitman.

    Boyd is cool too.

I've been watching it on Hulu so haven't seen the latest ep yet but besides really liking the characterizations here, particularly Raylan, I like the complexity that is built into pretty much every interaction with bad guys. The whole business with his dad in the last episode was given a lot more texture than just "dad and son don't get along"

Just started watching this (had the first season in the DVR for a few months).

It's okay, so far (four episodes in) but nothing to write home about. I thought it'd be darker/grittier than it is.

It's not like it's the Sopranos or anything (inasmuch as what the Sopranos were said to be since, not having HBO...) but for what it is, it does it well. I don't remember any episode that just bored the fuck out of me, or anything that jumped out as being way outside the boundary of SoD.

and I remember a lot of times when i thought they turned a character particularly well. Wait until you see where they go with Boyd...wait until you see MC Ganey as Boyd's dad.
but no, it's not "groundbreaking" or anything.

The main character's a little too "pretty", too.

I tried to watch Ride With the Devil a while back and found it unconvincing because all of the main characters looked like 20th century pretty boys and not 19th century guerrilla fighters.

It never gets very dark. In fact, the humor is what I love about the show. Whenever series creator Graham Yost pens an episode the dialogue is incredibly witty and funny as hell.

This is one of those shows where you pop a brew, sit back in your easy chair, and enjoy the ride.
