I'd post this in Media Central, but it's more fun here http://comicbook.com/anime/2018/07/20/voltron-legendary-defender-shiro-boyfriend/ Short version: Hot, alpha male character is confirmed as 100 percent as gay as @Volpone and no one has to hide it like they did with Avatar: Legend of Korra and I'm so here for it Like my signature says: it's canon, bitches
So...are these the same characters as the 80's show, or is this a "___The Next Generation", type deal with an all new crew?
Reboot. Some of the characters have the same names as the originals, but others are new to the whole series.
It's a revision of the 80s characters. They took some liberties, most notably with the green paladin Pidge *cough* and Lotor's harem being less love slaves and more Charlie's Angels. Also, fangirls went apeship for Lance and Keith being gay for each other cuz they were shirtless together and bickering. I can see the appeal, but....*points to avatar*
My son is watching that show right now. He calls it the lion show with the lady. Can’t just say voltron.
If you knew much about anime you would know that often the creator intended for the characters to be gay but things were sanitized for the us audience as it was a marketing concern. The reality is that a number of gay and trans characters on classic shows had their relationships altered, their gender swapped, or were cut out of the show entirely. So really the gay was taken away from the creator's original idea because homophobic people could not take it. This is just returning it to the original intent. I am sure you will be supportive of that given how there should be no need to change a character for the purpose of popularity.
Before the ignorant twats go on it should be explained that there is a huge desire to see the pretty boys in anime making out. The ideas of romantic gay relationships are explored in animation over there as seriously as the straight relationships because many girls, and some guys, like seeing hot animated men in romantic relationships. just like a straight romantic title there is a huge market for gay titles that are the same as straight. There is a huge market in the US for gay and trans titles and people want to see it. Calling it trendy is like saying making romcoms is just trendy. It is an actual genre over there, and the characters are included in other genres because it adds to the show. For those who are easily offended by such things I recommend you avoid the shows coming over because it is just going to get worse. Your bubble is getting smaller, and no one wants to live in your tiny little world anymore.
Having actually watched the show, I can tell you this wasn't just gay for lulz, unlike your fraternity initiation. Which btw, teabagging is still gay if you lick at the balls. Just so you know.
In this case, the Takashi Shirogane of the GoLion anime (from which this Voltron takes it's inspiration from) bit the dust about six episodes into the series before he barely got a personality to begin with, so I say this counterpart is doing marginally better Like I said, they took care to develop this character into...well, a character people cared about. He's had to deal with PTSD from kidnapping and losing an arm during said kidnapping and a shit ton of spoilers IC stuff I won't get into because I want people to watch this fucking show so I can make Sheithforge a reality
Awwwww, that's so cute (I'm gonna show this to my niece and nephew and watch my brother's homophobic head explode when I pretend like I was surprised by the whole series season 7's gayness ) Don't forget about the vein, cuz that's pretty sensitive too
I didn't join a fraternity. I saw no point in paying for friends as I never had problems finding lots of friends. I have always been a pretty outgoing guy. Besides we could usually get into the frat parties just by being cool and making friends with frat boys. It helped if you bring beer and knew friends who were girls.
