The conservative Christian gay guy who was molested by his priest as a kid, and defends his molester? Odd ethical priorities you've got there in your fangirling, but okay....
Looks like the guys at Red Letter Media don't much care for this movie. They do love Dan Aykroyd's crystal skull vodka, though.
These guys are spot on except for Leslie Jones, she was horrible. Kate McKinnon's character BTW, was just there doing crazy shit. She barely had any lines and was just like, "look at me, I'm weird and crazy, I'm like Egon", but she wasn't anything like Egon. I love how they point out that if you wanted female protagonists, GB is not the place for it. They also pointed out that we had a female protagonist in "Alien" with Ripley in 1979 ! We also had Sarah Conner and now with Marvel movies we have different races and genders working together and it's no big deal. I'd also point out we had WW and the Bionic Woman in the 70s. Female protagonists aren't really a new thing. I hate to repeat myself, but I really don't see what Dicky sees in this movie. Oh well, this movie will get squashed this weekend when Star Trek comes out.
I don't remember them saying that, and that point makes no sense. I don't remember being male being the thing of Ghostbusters. Anyone can put on the pack. Interestingly enough, not a line in the film. That's a thread through their discussion that was objectively wrong. The new characters aren't clones of the originals, they're new characters with their own traits. Whining about "Ray would have done this", and "Egon would have done this", is as pointless as saying "Luke would have done this", in comparison to Rey. Some basic archetypes are similar, but this new crew is as different as TNG is to TOS. If they had been exact female clones of the originals, people would have fucking whined about that. If you don't LIKE the new characters, that's one thing, saying the film made an objective ERROR in not making them clones, is incorrect, and foolish. I like RLM, but I don't have to agree with them on everything. Just off the top of my head, I disagreed with them on "Pacific Rim" (they liked it) and BvS (they unreservedly hated it, and acted like it killed their dads).
I agree, that was a very odd thing to say. Why the hell is Ghostbusters not the place for it? Maybe we need a few more of these female recasts if somebody can't envision how a female protagonist can work in a fairly non gender specific role.
One thing I agreed with both the RLM and Nostalgia Critic reviews, is they both did "*sarcastic clapping* way to go internet, are you proud of yourselves? Was it worth it?", in regards to all the furor, and hooplah, and nastiness, and politics thrown all around, over this, or indeed any movie.
No shit, but Paul Fag made this movie to prove that women can be Ghostbusters too or women can do things the same as men, which is a nice gesture, but not exactly true. Paul Fag made a point of making it about girl power. Unfortunately he made them look like bumbling idiots. I know, I said it. Nobody said they should be clones of the old characters, but clearly they are meant to resemble the old characters as @Zor Prime pointed out. Clearly Kate McKinnon's character is supposed to be like Egon, but she just did stupid weird shit that made no sense and as they said, every time she was on screen I wanted to peel my face off. Nobody's "whining" about it, it's a fair comparison of old and new characters. Again, nobody's whining. I think comparing Holtzman and Egon is as fair as comparing Spock and Data. They are very distinct characters, but similar. Again, noby's saying they should be clones.
What they said and meant was if you want a female protagonist in an action blockbuster role equal to men, you should probably do a movie like Die Hard or Roadhouse. They went on to say we've already seen such roles like in Alien, Terminator and they also mentioned Kill Bill. Not that girls can't be ghostbusters, but that type of girl power could be better displayed in other types of movies. Clearly anyone can put on a pack and shoot ghosts, though in this movie they had horrible aim.
I think the answer to that will be determined by whether or not it has a sustainable box office or home media life. It has a lot to do to break even and with so many summer tentpoles coming up, it has its work cut out for it.
Maybe Paul Fag shouldn't have sent out nasty tweets when people just simply thought the trailer sucked. Maybe they shouldn't have the Ghostbusters shoot the big bad or maybe they shouldn't have had the line at the end .
Do you agree with them? I'm legitimately curious about the Roadhouse recommendation, for example, over Ghostbusters. Why one, but not the other?
It's the natural implication that comes along with "wahhh!! It's not Ray!! Waaaahh!! it's not Egon!!" Yeah, they aren't, it's the point.
You'll be okay, you'll be okay, breathe into the bag, drink some water, breathe, breathe, picture a sunrise on a beach. Shhh, shhh, easy, easy...
Fuck off, faggot. You're clearly retarded and can't read. I'm done discussing this with you because you're too stupid to realize that just maybe you are wrong about this movie and it's possible that people don't like it. All you're gonna do is
After all the crap @Diacanu has pulled over the last ten pages, and that post right there in particular, warning FF for his response seems grossly unfair.
And FF proves right there why those of us with legitimate criticisms were just dismissed out of hand. Thanks FF, you just supported the sexist, manchild narrative.
Didn't say a damned word, I just let your post sit there. gul was already in the tread to see, dummy.
And how did I do that? I have no problem with an all female cast. What I do have a problem with is the movie itself.
