LA is actually better off than most of the country as it has three large competitors (TWC, Verizon's fiber FIOS service, and AT&T) plus half a dozen small competitors as well as satallite services. So there is some competition. Most of the country has no competition in broad band so they get truly slow service at high prices.

I am not saying competition is strong, I am saying there is at least some competition which is better than most of the country where there is only one provider.

My hometown only has the choice between Xfinity and AT&T. The latter is far preferable to the former that would always fucking go down even outside of peak hours. :wtf:

Finally, we know why we can't take anything with us when we die. It would get misplaced onto a plane to Rio.

They're feeling the heat in Cincinnati. When Google hinted at pushing 1 GB through the Queen City, AT&T, Cincinnati Bell, and Time Warner hauled their asses in gear. Where I was paying $60 a month for 5 Mbps DSL service, I now pay $35 a month for 15 Mbps cable internet. So I'm pleased with this, though I would still love to see Google push through here anyway.

For the past couple of months, my morning commute has taken me past Google Fiber crews installing the lines.

Because the conduit is orange at first I thought they were laying gas lines, but one day while waiting on a flagman to wave me through, I asked him and he said it was Google. :techman:

And, nearly three years later, I came home from work and found temporary parking restrictions on my street today for Google Fiber installation.

The speed is great from Google fiber, the TV service not so great. Google compresses the TV signal quite a bit, so the picture quality isn't all that great. But if you stream, then it doesn't really matter.

BTW, through Xfinity, I have their 150mbps service, but average around 300mbps, and I've gotten over 1000mbps.
