GOP Senate candidate says most rapes aren't; women can mentally abort

If we were in a context where it mattered a lot, and sometimes ill-intentioned people claimed that something was an apple when in fact it was not, then yes, in that context, you could validly refer to those cases where it actually was an apple, as opposed to those cases where it was only claimed to be and was not.

What's so hard about that?

 

At least it's not like they made Paul Ryan chairman of the Budget Committee or anything quite that ridiculous . . . oh, wait. Damn.

 

A false claim of rape is not rape.

The word "legitimate" is not needed to modify the word "rape." All rapes are "legitimate." Rapes that are not are rapes that didn't happen, and lying about being raped is, at the very least, slander.

 

I'm not going to read five pages but I'll take a crack.

The idiot was trying to talk about "violent" rapes. Rapes where the woman is attacked and raped.

Had he a brain cell he would have said "violent rape" instead of "legitimate rape" because saying "legitimate rape" could lead one to think that he thinks other types of rape (statutory rape for example) are okay.

 

Sentencing guidlines.

There is a difference between a rapist who attacks his victim and some 18 year old having sex with his willing 17 year old girlfriend whose mom gets pissed at him and calls the cop.

Technically both have committed rape under the law but would you say the two should get the exact same sentence?

 

Rape is rape. Rape = forced sexual copulation with an unwilling partner.

If you consider Statutory Rape to be different, then drop the word "rape" from the title and call it something else.

Yeah, there are all kinds of problems with statutory rape law, starting with the fact that it is an arbitrary distinction, one that isn't even consistent from state to state. Many states have 18 as the age of consent, but some have 16, and a few go even younger than that. Why is an 18 year old with a 17 year old "rape" in some states, when a 40 year old and a 16 year old is not in some other states? It should be clear that it is quite common for such cases to in fact be rape, but not simply because of the age difference. It is the coercion or use of force that makes it rape.

 

You'd think this would be self-evident, wouldn't you?

 

Often authorities don't call it "rape", per se.

It will be something like, "Sexual Battery/Carnal Intercourse with Victim under 18".

 

Consent is the key. Legally, an underage person can't give consent. And sex without consent (even if the act itself was agreed-upon) is, legally, rape.

Sorta like why the whole "if gays can get married, then people will want to marry corpses/fish/bicycles" argument falls apart.

 

Yeah, but in some states, "legally," a sixteen year old can give consent. It's an entirely arbitrary definition of the word consent.

Since we live in Akin's district, there's still a lot of this outrage going on locally. The Mrs. saw a great bumper sticker the other day...

Rape babies are "God's will." I presume I don't need to mention the party affiliation of the guy who said this.

 

If I'm running the GOP, the next candidate who mentions rape in any other context than "rape is bad, end of story" gets their funding cut off. "Rape is bad, but rape babies are good" or "rape can't lead to pregnancy" or "rape is bad, but God has a plan"...not one more dime, and you're disavowed.

 

Funny how so many people believe they know what is on God's mind.

This is exactly why religion needs to be seperated from government. Anyone can claim that God said this or that and there is no way to prove or disprove it...

The Bible is written in such archaic language and has been edited and rewritten so many times you can use it to justify pretty much anything.

The sad thing is, this fool could still win the election in Indiana. People are just dumb.
