    Linkage

My God - who on Earth would think that course of action was a good one? On the other hand, I guess I know how I can actually get the train to stop where I want it to now!

"Stay away from Amtrack" is good advice in general.

I rode Amtrak once in December 1994. I rode it from Charleston, SC to Phoenix, AZ. Of course, that's when Amtrak actually stopped in Phoenix. Now (if I recall correctly) the closest Amtrak comes is Maricopa, which is about 30 mins out from Phoenix.

Anyway, the trip I took was a blast. I can't remember if it was a two-day one night or three-day two-night trip, but I had fun. Hung out with some cool folks in the lounge car. Sleeping was kinda sorry since all I had was my Greyhound Bus style seat. (Sleeper car woulda been great, but pricey).

Anyway, yeah. Seems like this was a seriously fucked up decision on the part of Amtrak.

Hmm, I never saw anything like this when I took Amtrak from Pittsburgh to Philly this past Christmas. Though... I'm not surprised because 90% of the Amtrak personnel I encountered were assholes, assholes on powertrips I might add. The conductors REALLY seem to enjoy the power they have over you.

It it Amtrak's policy to hire 300-lb giants who can barely squeeze down the aisles?

In all honesty, traditionally, the Conductor is the God of the train, much like the Captain of a ship. He's the man in charge, not the engineer or motorman.

Don't know why Europe can run an efficient and decently priced train system while we can't. It costs more to ride a train than to fly, so why bother?

That wasn't the case when I rode it in 1994. In fact, I rode the train because it was about $100 cheaper.

    Times change, I guess.

^They just handcuff people causing trouble, or divert and put them off at the first airport they can land.
The don't just chuck them out at 24,000 ft... :borg:

When I lived in Oregon I rode Amtrak for a year to and from Seattle. After that I realized that not only is Greyhound cheaper, it's quicker and WAY more reliable.

Fuck Amtrak in its stupid, expensive, bullshit, diabetes hating ass.
