Granite State Goes Gay As New Hampshire Governor Signs Civil Union Bill

It isn't the term so much as the rights. The government (national) does not honor the same rights that the state governments do with civil unions. I can't remember it exactly, but one of the pair of a lesbian couple in VT could not be put on the insurance of her spouse because of the company not honouring the union and it being government run or something.

Still, I see your point on the terminology- doesn't mean a damn bit of difference as long as they still get their rights.

The answer to that question is YES. Seeing as only one state, mine, voted down a ban on gay marriage AND civil unions...

Yep, the feds dont honor it, so they cant file jointly on federal taxes, and they cant get the benefits of marriage for immigration purposes.
