Thought I'd clarify this. The game is rendering in 640p, but that's vertical resolution, not horizontal. Your normal NTSC signal has 480 lines of vertical resolution, and PAL 576, but that's not taking into account the fact that the 640p is native widescreen too so the amount of horizontal pixels is substantially larger than the NTSC or PAL standards (1152 vs 720 if I'm not mistaken). In which case overall, you're talking 737280 vs 345600; way higher than standard definition. If you're interested, Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 were rendered at the same (or very similar) resolution and upscaled just the same as GTA4. And just so my first post isn't just a boring factual extravaganza, I work as a games reviewer, and while we were allowed a long preview of the game, to play it well before release etc. we reckon it may have been due to the fact that we reviewed Rockstar's previous big title, Bully (360) as 'only' a 7 that we weren't invited to play the review code. Also on that note, when we reviewed GTA: San Andreas, Rockstar called us up to ask why we'd rated the durability as 'ONLY' a 9! Our response was something like 'because we think the durability is worth 9'. They're remarkably precious about their scores.
