I heard the PC version will come in November or October. I've never seen GTA on a PC before, but if it's like the other console to PC ports, you will be stuck with that stupid auto-aim shit. Instaed of using your mouse to aim, you'll have buttons that toggle between targets. I wish the people who port games to PC would fix this. It would be nice to play a PC shooter where you actually needed to use your mouse to aim. And Bailey, I didn't know the PS3 was rendering at 640. Isn't that like, standard broadcast quality? And I'm not so sure about that. Sometimes, the background cityscapes look a bit blurry, but when you get up close to the characters and cars, it looks like HD to me. You can see the little hairs on Nicholai's face.
Give me advertising that doesn't lie! IMO, it' shouldn't be OK to advertise 1080p graphics if all you do is scale from a lower rez. Your TV do that for you on a NES. But you are right, graphics are really not the most important thing by a long shot. Misleading customers just irks me, that's all.
Really? i thought it was gonna be a year or so. GTA san andreas was great on pc, no silly aim and everything worked fine
Yes, but so was The Elder Scrolls series. And it was great, until they started developing for consoles, then their whole user interface got screwed with on the way over. (Speaking of Morrowind -> Oblivion, not sure about previous versions.) And no, I didn't know the GTA series was on PC first, or that it started in the UK. Cool factoid.

No such thing! Uh... sure. So my NES does something I didn't know about, cool. Right there with you on that one brotha.
Try the small island, Bohan... That's where i picked one up, i wonder if there are hookers on the other 2 islands though...
GTA and GTA 2 were very unplayable on the PSX and the only reason GTA: London 1969 was worth the time was because of that bitchin' Spyder in the Union Jack colors.
No, your NES doesn't do anything. Your TV does. An HDTV will automatically scale any input to fit the actual amount of pixels on the screen. The point is, advertising a resolution that is really just scaled up is BS.
I thought GTA2 was a fun diversion on Dreamcast. Took a bit of practice to learn how to drive from that vertical camera angle but it was fun once you got the hang of it.
Got it and love it. The story is good so far, the city looks great and online just kicks all sorts of ass.
There's no auto-aim in the PC version of GTA San Andreas, unless you're using a gamepad. You have full aiming with the mouse. It's also a lot better than the PS2 version that I've played because it's easier to adjust the camera while driving and doing pretty much anything. I couldn't agree more. I'd be fine with the graphic seen on some SNES games if they had good stories and were fun to play. But nowadays it just seems like they spend all their time focusing on getting those extra particles into some mysterious dark corner or making sure the bullets are surround sound, and we get stuck with shitty voice acting, gameplay that lasts a few hours, horrible controller configurations, and a boring storyline. Oh, but you can just make out the nosehairs on the guy you're sniping from a quarter mile away so it's all worth it. Fortunately from what I'm hearing, GTA IV is the best of both worlds.
My friend and I played team death for one round last night and a game of cops & crooks. We took second overall from 8 two man teams in deathmatch and in cops & crooks we were outnumbered 3-2. We won the first round as crooks without either of us dying and then as the cops we took out one criminal and gave hella chase on the boss, still winning the round because of the kill. So, yeah, I like the online too.
I bought a PS3 with GTAIV last night. About to buy a vga cable so I can play it on my computer monitor.
Not so much, although I don't know any of the sales figures. The only reason I chose PS3 over 360 was to see a wider variety of games since I already do a lot of PC gaming and there is more PC/360 crossover. If I had been picking a console just for GTA I would have gone 360 since it has better online and will be having the exclusive DLC.
Looking at the graphics again, there is no way it's rendering in 640p. Maybe the cityscapes in the background, which fill in as you get closer, but it is too detailed to only be 640. Also, I kinda disagree that this game is a 10, as a lot of reviews are saying. One of the reasons I wouldn't give it a 10 score is the very archaic way they save things. Seems you have to go back to your safehouse to save properly. This means if I am preparing to go on a mission, I have to go buy all my weapons, make sure my armor is at 100%, then drive or taxi all the way back to my safehouse to save before starting the mission. There should be a save feature you can access at any time. Secondly, another thing that is really annoying is how the police can just start chasing you for doing shit that you didn't do on purpose. If a pedestrian walks in front of you and you had a green light, then you accidentally run him over, you'll get arrested, brought to jail, and have your weapons removed from you. I accidentally drove a little too far ahead on one of their pay booths, and the police tried to arrest me for that. Yeah, shaking them is easy enough, but it's highly annoying. Another thing is the music. Not the songs itself, but every time you get into a car, it seems the music is on full blast. You can go into your settings and lower the volume to zero, but then it turns all music off all the time. It would be nice if it were a random thing...not everyone has their music on full blast when they turn on the car. Plus, on some missions, the dude would get into the car, and then there would be talking right away. So you're listening to guitars blaring and trying to hear what they say over the music. It's OK if you can turn off the radio (you'll just miss the first part of what they are saying) but there are some missions where you have to answer the phone right away, while the music is blaring. Also, there is this little radio in your 2nd safehouse that seems to play reggae 24/7. If you take out your pistol and shoot it enough times, it'll turn off till the next time you go back into your safehouse (after some time has elapsed.) The problem is, if there are cops nearby your apartment, the gunshots will alert them, and they will come into your apartment to arrest you. You have no windows where you can see whether there are police cars or not before starting to shoot the radio, so you just have to live with the reggae. Still, I can see why some people give it a 10. The city and all the little details they put into it definitely make it a must buy, and almost makes up for the few inane stupidities you do have to deal with.
It's definitely rendering at 640, that is still a fairly high resolution though, higher than dvd so with detailed assets looks good. Isn't really an issue though since plenty of games do it.
