Lame. There's no reason not to release such a big title during the holiday season. The Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed games are churned out like twice a year to the point of over saturation, a GTA release would stand out in a shitstorm of Maddens and Call of Duties.
We may not be alone in that... I don't know if this will add pressure on Rockstar to get GTA V out any sooner in order to help fiscal year over year performance, but I hope so. I skipped Max Payne 3. What about you?
Never played Max Payne in the first place. I am looking forward to GTA V, but rushing a game's release just because the bean counters got antsy never ends well.
I'll probably try out Max Payne 3 when it comes down in price, but that probably won't happen until after GTA V.

Latest is that the map will be several times the size of the GTA4 map, and that Los Santos will cover twice the area of Liberty City. That leaves quite a lot of extra space, probably for small towns, desert, mountains etc. You'll also be able to fly various planes, can be chased by the military, and there's an in-game economy, for drugs, weapons etc.
Yeah, the map is supposed to be bigger than GTA: San Andreas, GTA IV, and Red Dead Redemption combined. RDR alone is huge. Also, it has been confirmed that you play as three different characters. One is a black dude living in the ghetto, one is basically a white trash drug dealer/addict living in the country, and another one is a career criminal turned family man who moved to Los Santos to "get away from it all." And it looks like parachutes are back.
Here are the screenshots that have been released so far: http://www.gtav.net/screenshots/ (the last 4-5 pages are just screenshots from the trailer, though)
Who wants that? It was annoying driving that much in San Andreas. Knowing past GTA games, they're going to set a mission at the far left of the map where you have to drive to the far right of the map. That's just boring, especially since I didn't like the changes to the driving in IV.
For you maybe. It was super fun driving around San Andreas listening to the radio, and it had some pretty diverse environments. Driving in GTA IV certainly got tedious even with a smaller map, but I was never bored driving around in San Andreas. It was even more fun flying around in a helicopter or jet. Though, I'm also a fan of Just Cause 2's massive fucking map, which was only made navigable due to the helicopter extractions which moved you across the map in like 15 seconds. But considering RDR had something very similar to this (instant travelling between towns) and GTA IV had instant travel via taxis, I wouldn't be surprised if GTA V had it too. Driving missions in GTA IV sucked, but they were never that bad in San Andreas. Plus, they're reworking the driving mechanics from GTA IV so that cars handle less "boat-like" in GTA V. Also, airplanes are back.
Aren't there things like taxis and trains you can take if you don't want to drive across the entire map?
Yes, there were taxis in GTA IV where you could set a waypoint and basically get there within 10-15 seconds by skipping ahead. Red Dead Redemption had the same thing with stagecoaches, trains, and "instant travel" via the campfire system. RDR was massive and definitely needed it, considering how slow horse travel was.
Driving the way the first time may have been nice, and yes, the radio stations were fantastic, but what happened when you failed a mission? What if you got all the way there and then failed? Drive it again? What if it was hard and you had to do it a third time? Granted, the taxi stuff will be helpful, but they have missions where they force you to drive, and that stuff sucks. Hopefully they've learned their lesson in terms of checkpointing and fast travel so that the large world isn't an issue anymore.
Their checkpointing was pretty bad in GTA IV. That last mission was an absolute pain in the ass because of it. Duh, I expect them to HAVE checkpoints, but it's where they place them and with how much frequency.
From what I gather, you will be able to fast travel by switching characters. Apparently, when you're not playing as one if the 3 playable characters, these guys will be off somewhere living their lives. So if one of them is close to and objective, you just switch and play as them. [yt=IGN Game Scoop! 11.12.12]F1fnUpi9KzY[/yt]
I really hope there are submarines, and not just scuba diving (or at least an easier way of moving around under water other than tapping a button repeatedly).
GTA V has been delayed, the official release date is now September 17, 2013. Boo! I was looking forward to it coming out in the Spring, but I guess it's good that they're taking the time to make sure it's suitable for release. Plus it's good to finally have an actual release date! Also, more and more screenshots of the game are being released: http://www.rockstargames.com/V/screenshots One of my favorites:
