I wasn't on board for kicking him out till the account sharing happen and my ego about no one else coming to us aside, it was no harm no foul there.

Question; What would the duration be on a ban for giving others access to your account and PM's?

A week seems fair, the same as for personal information.

I feel like a couple of weeks ought to do. A permanent ban, as much as I can't stand the guy, seems excessive. I just threw up in my mouth a little.

On further reflection, letting him sit out a week or two for sharing his account (and thus the contents of its PMs) is reasonable. Announce why gturner is banned and when he'll be back in the HD thread on the topic. I can make the announcement/clarification (as I'm usually the peacemaker in these sorts of situations), but if it's not me, should be Dr. Krieg, Ancalagon, or shootER. Gul, if you want to do it, please consider sharing the post over PM for revision before making it. Avoiding the perception of arrogance, deserved or not, is probably for the better.

We know that gturner's account has received PMs, as he's said so before, but we should clarify that any account sharing will in the future be assumed to be revealing the contents of PMs absent evidence to the contrary.

And someone should reach out to Paladin, get him to come back.

To go all "cybernanny" here for a moment, this is a way to protect account holders, not just people who've exchanged PMs with the person sharing their account info. To do this, you've got to give someone else your password, they can then take control of your account, lock you and proceed to wreak havoc on the board. And if you're someone who uses the same password everywhere else (as lots and lots of folks do) that person can then really fuck you over. Going forward (and yes we should announce this now), not only should sharing your account info with someone be worthy of at least a temporary ban, but accepting the account info of someone else and logging into their account, should be worthy of a ban.

There is no rush. Seems at the earliest it would be a two week ban (so another week). Time should be taken to both make a decision and then figure out how to move forward (how not to get here again).

Here's a suggestion: Go over the board rules now. Check every jot and tittle, not only to refresh your own memories, but to see what should be changed. Make a public announcement about any suggestions for changes (and if you want to change any of them, regardless of gturner or not, this needs to be done), and even if there are no suggestions, make a post to remind folks of exactly what the rules are. This will prevent any issues cropping up if gturner shows his ass and merits a second banning.

I disagree. People are generally smart enough to change their passwords first when handing over account credentials.

And it doesn't matter what my password is when I hand my credentials over to you, what matters is what my password is after you log out using my account. Is it the same, or did you change it to something else?
