    If I remember correctly, you opposed the governor requiring drug tests for state welfare. I am curious as to why EBT is for food, but Welfare isn't for....well, the person's Welfare?

    I would imagine it's because drug testing for welfare is regulating what one might do, whereas limiting EBT for food is regulating what a person actually does.

    Exactly. If I give you food stamps, it's for FOOD! The state has every right to tell someone who applies for assistance what that assistance should be used for. Since you can't buy pot, crack or meth at Publix, it's a non-issue. I have heard stories of druggies trading food stamps for crack (I think we all have) but this is one time where the technology really makes a difference. I like the idea that the computer is programmed to ring up a "no sale" on contraband. Excellent idea.
