I can't think of anything more tragic for a man in the military than to be treated like an object of abject pity. Truly, anyone who's adopted a solider has no understanding with regards to the role of chivilary. And the soldier in question who put himself up for adoption is a coward and traitor to his comrades.
This isn't a troll, this is just elementary logic with regards to the practical nature of the military. Soldier's are not to be pitied but made tough.
Handing out cars and stuff, FOR FREE to soldiers is just wrong - why do they deserve it? I may as well give free stuff to the dickheads that produce "Jackass", after all they put themselves out by doing stupid things. War is stupid, and I have no pity for anyone who takes part in it. It's disgusting the way the military recruits from high-schools. That in itself shows the depths of depravity of the current American administration.
Lord Raffles For some reason recruiting from nursing homes just hasn't worked out. Up-armoring their walkers and Rascals was too expensive.
As much as he's just a bad troll, I can help but to agree with this point...... The military in the UK got pulled up recently for a similar practice.
The best part about my government sponsored vacation to Baghdad were all my new parents. Christmas time is great now.
College isn't for everyone and the military offers a good career for plenty of people. And if college is for you than the military can be used to pay for it. There is nothing wrong with letting an 18 year old decided if he or she wants to serve their country for a few years before taking the next step. Personally I believe it should be a mandatory 2 years to gain citizenship, even for those born here.
Do the UK equivalents to US High Schools have a career day? There's nothing disgusting about offering the option of joining the military. In fact they are but one of many recruiters on most campuses.
Sorry...I do have my standards about dealing with "those" kind of people, unless they are pulling my lottery tickets at the 7-Eleven store.
The problem in the UK was the targeting by the military of specific schools where they would find young, impressionable, undereducated boys trapped in a cycle of poverty. At UK highschools, these kids would all have been under 18. I have no problem with people serving in the military but the practice of targeting these types of young people who more often than not do not properly know what they are getting themselves into sits very uneasy with me.
Nephew dragged his mother down to the recruiting office when he was 14 or so, joined up before he'd even got his GCSE results... He didn't want to wait.
I think at 14 it was the mothers job to make him wait until he was old enough to make a decision that big.
I never understood the whole 'adopting'/'supporting' thing. There's a bunch of professionals sent to do a job that's purely in the interest of the ruling elite. They don't 'protect your freedom', they don't 'fight for you', they do what they are ordered no matter how right or wrong. Sure, some like Tex may have thought that they're doing these heroic things, but obviously, this has changed now. Well, the point is: it's the duty of those who sent them to support them. It's on your dime anyway so 'the state' is obliged to get them the stuff they need. I would understand the concept if the US military were really defending the country. Now there's a reason.
Attack war is bad But I'm glad to see that the brainwashing has control again. Some time ago it seemed like you had seen what was really going on - and that you wasted your time, energy and dreams for a war about lies and greed.
Same old Cass, same old tactics. Don't put words in my mouth, I'm still not supporting the war in Iraq. At the same time I'm not arguing that no one should join the Army because we have an idiot that doesn't support the American people or his own troops in office. No matter how you feel about the American Army, we need to have one and it's not just for our own protection, it's for yours too.
Yeah, and I don't disagree But in your fervor to neg rep me whenever I say something you may not like (it's may because you obviously didn't read it first) you overlook that I said: I don't get why people need to send stuff to the soldiers. The government - and NOT the people - sent them there, so they better look out for them too. And: the whole thing would be entirely different if this was a defensive war. Nobody's 'sent' there. Get it? Thanks, but no thanks.
Getting back on topic, one thing about the whole getting fucked in Baqubah, is that we didn't have to shave for quite a while. When we finally did come in to the FOB I said, what the fuck, there are no chicks around why not try out the old military chimo 'tache. It hasn't fully grown in yet, but it really isn't as bad as I thought it'd look. My father's always had one so in my mind at least it makes me look old. Don't know if it does really or not. I think I'm going to keep it until I redeploy and then decide what to do with it.
People do not "need" to send anything, the government does provides everything. People are not all selfish cunts like yourself, and they want those doing a very difficult job for low pay to have some nicer things that aren't necessarily provided, that's why they send soldiers care packages and support them. The soldier can survive without this support or any care packages, but luckily the people of America are the most generous people in the world, so they don't have to.
