Greetings, Earth Children. I look forward to being disturbed and inspired by your posts. I'm browsing the threads now, looking for anything having to do with animals, especially those who are winning the war for territory in the southern part of the United States, so-called invasive species such as the Russian boar, the Nile Monitor lizard, and Burmese Python. Sincerely, McScout
Welcome to Wordforge! We don't typically discuss vermin that often, unless it has to do with how best to shoot them. But I would welcome the chance to read your musings on the subject. You should start a thread in the Green Room about that. The Green Room is a general discussion type part of Wordforge, where people can bring up any issues that interest them. You might also try the Red Room, where many of the human form of vermin like to hang out. The rules there are pretty light, with virtually no moderation, so bring a porcupine quill or two to fend off the critters.
You will no doubt be accused of being a dual of some current or former member in short order. Take no offense. Happens to everyone. If you are new here... welcome! If you are a dual... welcome back!
I think we've got a few Floridians who have related horror tales about the local wildlife in the past. Anyway, glad to meet you!
I was wasting time at work, trying to find a discussion online on whether or not domestication had any impact on a house cat's impulse to kill every moving thing in its environment, whether it is hungry or not (an unusual trait). You know, it's been all over the news. And it's not a behavior you see in the wild (if you don't count feral cats). I was wondering if there was some biological advantage to the behavior, or if it was just an aberration set into play as a result of being domesticated (like horses, which groom each other in the wild, but don't when they are domesticated). Anyway, the search led me to some forums here, where people talk about biology and science and other such things. I don't remember exactly. Because once I saw the site, I got distracted by the division between "green," "red" and "blue" rooms. Of course I went right for the "red" room, and had some chuckles over the jiggling boob avatars and dry wit and so on. Then I went to the blue zone and saw people actually listening to and supporting each other. I thought it might be a good place to find people with some expertise in areas I know nothing about (though I am always happy to subject others with my opinion), so I decided to join. Thanks for asking.
At first when you said a "dual," I thought you meant, someone with multiple personality disorder (a diagnosis not recognized, for the most part, outside the United States). Then I got it. No, this is my first and only membership on Wordforge. Are duals or re-joiners found often here? Thanks for writing.
Nah. Pissed off housewife. That's the most dangerous game. Best advice; don't get drunk in a strange bar.
As you can see McScout, the Red Room can get like those cliched caricatured Old West Saloons in TV shows & movies sometimes. Not that there's anything wrong with that. If you want more subdued conversation (tea'n'crumpets), the Green Room's good for that. TechForge and Media Central are calm(er) rooms too.
So far, I like the variety. Which there is a lot of. And sometimes you do just want a saloon. I have to be so fucking polite in "real" life.
Welcome! We can always use some new blood eager to discuss biology, science, and jiggly boobs. Going slightly off-topic, but this made me think: ...didn't the Blue Room use to be invisible before you join? When did that change?
You might be right, now that I think about it, I remember the Blue room described as a space for sharing personal stories, and that intrigued me, but I saw nothing there. It must have been after I joined, that I started reading the threads there. I joined very quickly after accidentally finding the site, so the timeline is compressed and a little blurry. Whatever the sequence, I still think it's great, the range of ways people interact with each other, across the site.
Would it be really bad of me to request a screen name change? All the other kids have cool names and I don't like mine anymore. (Not sure exactly who to ask or where to post this...)
Hi, Ezri. Not sure if you were kidding, but yeah, there's a "Blue Room" section for personal stories, and people kind of drop in and offer advice or support for each other. I'm reading some of the threads and you can actually see how people have changed their lives over time.
You can request a name change in the helpdesk. Just start a thread stating what you'd like it to be. Alternatively, you can PM an admin (Tamar, Lanzman, or $corp).
Thanks, gul. As you can see, I did just what you suggested. They sure are efficient; it went through almost immediately!
