As a cartoonist and a writer, this is absolutely infuriating. Cartoon Network has a new show. The Looney Tunes Show. Now I know it's been done before, and since the fifties, it's pretty much been a series of crap after crap until we ended up with "Looney Tunes: Back In Action."

But this is about all I can take of people destroying one of the greatest franchises in animation history. This is the worst, I repeat, the absolute worst that I have seen. The animation is horrendously modernized using a "Total Drama Island"-esque flash animation. The character designs are abysmal, barely a shadow of their former selves. And the voice actors should be put in front of a firing squad. But worst of all, and I could get through the show if it weren't for this, the writing. It's... well there are no words to describe how [insert incomprehensible rage-based adjective here] the writing is.

I don't get mind-bendingly outraged at many superficial things, but this, because of my field of profession and respect, is one of the most upsetting things it has ever been my misfortune to view.

Have a taste of the worst thing ever.

    God I hate Loony Tunes.
I hate Tom and Jerry too.
    Burn them all.

Even as a 5 year old I hated them.
I remember thinking 'this sucks', I'd go into depression whenever this was the only cartoon I could find to watch.

I feel the same way about Scooby Doo.

Meh, I've been deleting it all from canon in my head since "Tiny Toon Adventures".

I'm going to throw this out there too...
I didn't think Pinky and The Brain was that funny either.

Hey, Tiny Toons wasn't bad. It was divine compared to the horrible crap they've done to the Looney Tunes over the past fifty years.

Animaniacs was another great one from my childhood.

    As i said before:

I get that it's a hard task to be as funny and clever as the originals. But damn, how hard can it be to DRAW like the were DRAWING 70 years ago? how hard is it to notice Bugs ain't PURPLE?!

That said, I must dissent on one point however - Back in Action was a GREAT movie with humor that was every bit worthy of the originals. it's the ONE and only "new" Loony Tunes in the last 30 years at least that can say that.

(Pinky and the Brain and Animaniacs was pretty funny but not Loony Tunes)

If Bug's Bunny were around today, Pepe Le Pew would instead be a primate named Islamonkey, and Bugs would have to try and stop him from flying planes into buildings, blowing up crowded buses, and beheading the other characters. The old cartoons were made for adults, but kids ended up liking them, hence, they changed directions and they are now kids shows.

It reminds me of when they dug up and raped Charles Schultz' corpse with new Peanuts holiday specials. They are fucking terrible and painful. Yes, I pretty much know the Christmas one by heart, but I'll watch it all day over having to watch any of the new ones even once.

Oddly enough I've been ripping classic Bugs cartoons off the Golden Collection DVDs to make myself a set of "Bugs Bunny Only" DVDs.

    They're still freakin hysterical.

Where they started losing quality was in the late 50s/early 60s. It was clear that by that time the studio stopped slipping adult humor into them, and they were becoming bland kiddie cartoons.

    No shit, man.

I bought this set for my stepson because it was in a bargain bin for $1.99. It was the most pretentious load of crap I'd ever seen.

Let's put it this way: My stepkid was 8 years old when I got it for him, and at that point it was an insult to his intelligence.

A purple Bugs Bunny? Is that a subtle hint that he's supposed to be gay?

Looney Tunes: Reality Check was tolerable, especially with the Charlton Heston/Planet of the Apes character eating rocks through half the disc.

Ok so any comments on the Golden collection? It looks to be 6 volumes of awesomeness, including the "indelicate" cartoons.

Not that hard -- but it would require a serious shift back to the mindset that created them. Originally, the Merry Melodies weren't aimed at kids, much less did they have all their guts ripped out and replaced with saccharin cotton candy fluff. Looney Tunes is aimed at kids, now, and worse yet, it's dumbed-down pablum that seems to have "being as inoffensive as possible" as its one and only objective. It's empty, brainless crap trading on well-known characters to keep it afloat when it ought to sink.

Well, he is now. And thanks to the power of liberal media, 20 years from now he will always have been. After all, who will say any different then?

That's the tricky thing, if there had never been censors, or McCarthyites, or christian-parents, and Loony Tunes had been made non-stop through the decades, I think they would have pushed the edge further, and further, and evolved into...well...something resembling Ren & Stimpy.

So...in one sense, it would be honoring Loony Tunes if you had John Kricfalusi do one...but people would complain it was blasphemy as much as this modern cutesy shit....

So, one is forced to tapdance on the boundary of what they could get away with in the 30's/40's.

Course, they don't even do that now....
