My stepdaughter (whom we have severe problems with) was allowed to take some pictures of the kids during a visit back home.

I am extremely sticky about privacy of the kids on Facebook and she took the pictures and put them on her Facebook without our permission and against my wishes (I had asked her to not EVER post them on her Facebook page) and then she made them public and sent out to over 300 some odd people.

    Of whom I don't know.

I have asked her to remove the pictures and she has refused too but I can't seem to find an email address or phone number for Facebook anywhere on their website.

Anybody know who I can contact about it?

My suggestion? If she uses the computer inapproriately, remove her access to it.

    She doesn't live with us.

Stupid to let her take pics of them I know but foolishly trusted her.

There's a button under the pictures that says "report this picture", which will allow you to, after clicking, add a reason for why you think the picture should not be up.

But I have a feeling that as she holds the copyright for the pictures, it might be a bit of a battle...

True. Its not a huge deal I know but they are minor children, being posted without the consent of the parent.

Its more the issue that she did it without our consent or even so much as asking me.

One things for sure she will NEVER be allowed access to the kid's pictures again.

    Another point of view...

Your stepdaughter is a coward. She must pay with her life. :bergman:

She's a troubled teenager who hates her stepmother and wonders why I don't trust her (hmmmm because after being told not to do something you do it?)

Same as about 500 million other teenagers. I wouldn't go that far :P

My DH on the other hand ates dealing with the fight so he just refuses to get after her for anything. Which of course means I'm on my own with this. Again. Same as anything regarding his family......

Oh the beds we make for ourselves.

I'm sorry, but your step daughter owns the pictures. If you owned them, you would have an avenue of possible pursuit, but you don't.

Do you have any influence in her life money wise? If you don't, the pics aren't coming down.

He just has an intense dislike of confrontation. People take advantage of it all the time. I on the other hand have no problem getting into people's faces. We very much balance each other. He manages to keep my temper under control for the most part and I am his backbone :P

Which is probably why my inlaws all intensely dislike me......:o because before me they ran the show. Completely.

Besides. For a variety of reasons divorce is not an option. No matter what happens I refuse to put my children through the hell that my inlaws would put them through if we did ever divorce. My step daughter is a product of that - she's 17 and an incredibly troubled 17 year old.

She tells him she'll take them down but I really don't believe that. We'll see if it happens. Regardless. Its done now but she will not be given access to pictures of the children again.

Not really. She has some incredibly creepy friends.

And I used to work in a law office where we would defend people who took great pleasure in doing disgusting things to children's pictures of family and friends that they would take off of the internet and other places.

Its not like people are going to stand up and say 'wooohooo...I'm a pedophile and don't send me pictures'.

I am VERY careful about who get access to what kind of pictures of the kids over the internet. There is the odd occassion I will post one or two on a website, like say here. But very rarely.

Would I be so reactive if didn't have that kind of knowledge and if she hasn't already gone out of her way to try to destroy my marriage and our lives over the past 3 years? Probably not. You have no idea the lengths that this girl and my DH's family has gone too to destroy our lives. It was incredibly foolish of me to let her take pics of them.

She does have a right to be somewhat concerned.

Facebook, Myspace, etc. are a virtual smorgasboard for pedophiles, organized crime, terrorist groups and just good old-fashioned folks who want to steal your identity.

Perhaps it's because I come from a different generation (i.e., one that grew up without computers or the internet) but I can't see why people would want to put their life story up for the whole world to see...

Well, the best advice I can give is e-mail privacy@facebook.com. While she might own the copyrights to the pictures, Facebook can still remove them for any reason they see fit, and the last thing they need is more bad PR about children's online safety.

Of course, ironically, Facebook is about a billion times safer than MySpace simply due to the network feature - you have to be part of someone's network to even see a simplified profile, and you can set the account so that only friends can see even more details. There are a lot of privacy options on Facebook and, well, it wasn't written by a bunch of goons learning ColdFusion for the first time.

IMO, this isn't a Facebook issue, it's a discipline issue.

First, contact the people she's living with and try to get them to agree to withdraw significant privileges until she takes the pictures down. If they decline, do it yourself. Let her know that--until the pictures are removed--every time she comes to stay with you, she will sit in her room and do nothing. No TV, no radio, no phone, no books, no magazines.

I know she's a bit old for that kind of thing, but she's a bit old to be disrespecting people's wishes about photos, too.

If that doesn't work, tell he she's not welcome at your home.

Also, tell DH to grow a pair. Every time he pussies out of disciplining his daughter, he makes the next time worse.

The thing is, Facebook's "privacy" and "security" have proven to be a fallacy. Any novice hacker can get through their protections.

    Aren't her kids babies?

Besides, so long as HER kids aren't getting ready to take a trip in the mystery candy van, she's overreacting.

Unless the stepdaughter is actively courting pedophiles, but that's a matter for the police...

    I think you've confused yourself.

It is more of a discipline issue. But out of 230 people, half of whom she met at drinking parties, I figure some of them have to be creepos. You teach stranger danger so why would you give a bunch of strangers a whole bucketload of pictures of your kids to download?

I did offer to at least compromise somewhat as to that she password protect the pictures or keep it to close friends but I'm still the psycho bitch from hell.

Actually I have wiped my own Facebook clean of pictures and a website I had set up for family members.

In the past week I found out that some of my own family members had taken it upon themselves to download pictures of the kids to give to other family members without asking me first (there's a reason why these particular family members aren't on my Facebook) and my DH's father took it upon himself to take some pictures to his Dr to ask him 'what was wrong' with the kids. creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppyyyyyy

And these are people I know and (except for the FIL) trusted! What about the people I don't know that well and don't keep in contact with on a regular basis?
