Right, and so far, nobody has been killed. That may not always be the case. Remember, until 9/11, nobody was ever to really pull-off a large scale terrorist event on US soil. But that's not really a good comparison. Lexington and Concord is the better one. Everyone showed up, thinking that there was just going to be a lot of chest-thumping on both sides. Then somebody heard a shot, and everybody started firing. The key point to that is no one knew who fired the first shot. If you know who fired the first shot, then you can make a show of dealing with that individual (assuming they survived) or at least issue a statement saying that you disavow such actions and modify your behavior so at the next demonstration something like that doesn't happen. When you don't know who fired first, then it's easy for all kinds of rumors to circulate. It was the British, it was the colonials. Nobody can prove anything, so everybody can use it to justify their increased aggression. That happened in an era before social media and photography. When you couldn't have people live-streaming things from their phones. Add into this mix the fact that we've got a leader who is totally inept and we're looking at a powder keg. There's not been a Republican President in my lifetime that I liked, but any of them would be better at diffusing such a situation than Trump did. Nixon had Kent State happen on his watch, and that didn't rip the country apart. Now? I don't know. Maybe the first time it happens the nutters with the guns will run off (like they did in Dallas). But what happens if at the next event somebody from the Redneck Revolt decides that since the nutters run off, it'd be a real hoot to shoot at them, just to watch them scatter? Ever been in a bar where two dudes start screaming at each other, even though you can tell neither of them really wants to fight? Then, because the crowd eggs them on, they start going at it? We're not too far off from something like that happening with these protests. People on both sides seem to really like pushing the buttons of those on the other side. Everybody keeps at it, and sooner or later, one side or the other is going to decide that they're going to have to take a stand. That's when it gets ugly.
Not to be contrary as I always am, but I think the cult 45 people are missing the reality that donnie boy is not in huge crowds with them anymore, and he is probably around people who are very safe while he maintains a huge distance presently. He is very much sending his dipshit minions out to do things while he is staying away from people. Agent orange is just too stupid to do it well. I m saying for a complete fuckwit like donald his present behavior is social distancing and being careful. I am in essence agreeing with you that Donnie is dumber than Cliven but they both are using their minions while they sit back and avoid the reprocussions of their action. It is interesting how they both target the same gullible people. You don't see them trying to pull that bullshit on the left because neither of them are smart enough to be a joe biden or micheal bloomberg.
so basically if Biden gets elected we can at least take a breather for four years because he won't embolden any nut jobs? Well that's pretty cool!
If (hopefully when) Trump loses the election, it's entirely possible that the situation will get worse, with the idiot patrol screaming about stolen elections and whatnot. If some large percentage of the country thinks the election was rigged - and with the shenanigans that have been going on with the Democratic primary process, that's not a huge stretch - then it could get really ugly.
I am cool with filling those corporate prison quotas with dumb ass white people. It would seem there is a lack of them in there. It is just natural for them to flow into a space with less concentration than the outside world. We have been restricting that for way too long.
It could in fact produce a Constituional crisis. What if Trump refuses to admit he lost the election, and a bunch of "armed militias" try to defend him? Worse yet, if we want to look at a "worst-case scenario", what if his packed Supreme Court rules he didn't lose the election, when everyone else knows he did? This is how "half-time" could end.
They would be illegitimate states who would have to find allies within the world. The people who would side with them would be the russians. How the hell would they actually rationalize communism into their ideology? Think this one through to the end mr. chicken little and you will see there is not much to be worried about because they do not have the numbers to actually seize much. You have to remember the reason they have an advantage in electing the president and congress is because low population land is propped up against the dense industrial and commercial areas. When you look at people who vote and the power that comes with voting it is really skewed when you consider an actual war with the numbers game.
Seriously @Asyncritus how are the militias of mississippi going to take down New york and california? Maryland could invade virginia and win. Atlanta and the coast of GA could pretty much take the redneck areas over without a problem. Sure, you might have some farmers on their land pretending they are sovereign citizens, but that is just pretend because if the authorities come they get what happened with the Bundy's. None of these militia people are going to be able to hold large areas of land. The best they can do is terrorism. I have a feeling that if they ever go full terrorist the authorities know how to find them because they have all outed themselves with their writings and code words. We are the most monitored people around.
And once again a conditional scenario whooses over Tererun's head like a space shuttle re-entering the atmosphere at 18 times the speed of light. Why am I not surprised?
no no, they were the oppressors. It looks like all sides enjoy a good rack of ribs during their off time. https://www.everythinglubbock.com/n...eam-raids-local-bar-for-protesting-to-reopen/
I disagree and here is why: every four years about half the voters are upset to varying degrees. The losing side cherry picks examples of why the election was unfair or rigged, but there are never enough full-on wackaloons to cause a complete societal breakdown, for which we should all be thankful.
sure anything is possible, but not all things are probable - your scenarios being examples of not probable IMHO.
damn I had to look closely but sure enough...it says SHERIFF on one of their vests. I can't wrap my mind around fat cops especially higher ranking ones. They should be setting the standard of self discipline, fitness and presenting a bring your A-game "be like me" attitude. Granted his large body does offer quite a bit of cover to hide behind if needed, so there is that.
On that, I fully agree with you. And I hope that's the case. It's not for nothing that I called it a "worst-case scenario". Nevertheless, it was not "probable" that a pandemic would come along this year and upset the whole world, either...
that's true - but it's not killing huge percentages of people either. In other the "worst case" scenario rarely turns out to be even close to that - thank goodness
won't happen until food becomes difficult to get or a governor/cop goes too far and pisses off the people who are quiet about their weapons and skills. So far the shortages have been on the demand side and not the supply side. That's changing. https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/05/business/wendys-beef-shortage/index.html Tell an American he can't get a cheeseburger, see what happens.
