When I see a black dude that looks "scary", I go to the other side of the street.

When I see a car who's driver is acting all crazy, once I see that they are black, I don't hold it against them.

When I see on the news that someone has been murdered, I assume that a black person did it.

When I see on the news that someone is complaining that the police are ignoring their neighborhood, I assume that it is a black neighbornood.

When I see on the news that someone is complaining that the police are paying too much attention to their neighborhood shortly after they were complaining that the police were ignoring their neighborhood, I assume that it is a black neighborhood.

When I see where there was a random shooting or a drive-by anywhere at all, I think...Black dude.

When I hear in the nooze that a child was char broiled in a daycare van..........black dude.

When I hear that an elderly white chick was run over five times right next to a Sonic, or that a handsome white couple were carjacked and raped to death, well....you know.

Considering that Memphis has been labeled by many as a racist city, it wouldn't surprise me if the local news media actually helped give people those ideas.

I hear that Don Imus could use you as a tutor. He's willing to pay real well right about now. Honestly, I don't care if someone is racist or not as long as they are not hurting someone with it.

Telling people what to think and feel generally only makes things worse.

Punish the criminals who take their racism out on people and teach your kids a better way...then time will take care of the rest.

I don't think many would say racism should be illegal. And as noted in this thread, there are many variants that exist that are fairly benign. Everybody stereotypes on some level or another. And it isn't always about race. I see a young man walking down the street with a baseball hat, hooded sweat shirt and baggy pants, I jump to some conclusions, even though he's no more likely to be a gang banger than a college student.

Sometimes I'm racist towards Mexicans (stop staring at me, creep!) and Muslims in general regardless of race. But I try to keep it to a minimum because I know people who don't fit stereotypes.

But I don't get your thing about charbroiled kids in cars, usually when I hear about some wack ass treatment of kids it's poor white people.
And I don't get the crazy driving thing because crazy driving has no color.

For me it's just people I don't know. Black people that I actually know, I don't stereotype. Wierd huh?

Good point. Even within Tennessee it's regional. When it happens in Knoxville, it's rich white people that do it. In Nashville, it's poor white people. In Memphis, it's black daycare bus drivers.

I agree that crazy driving has no color. It's just that for some reason, when it's a white person that's doing it, I get pissed off. When it's a black person or a Mexican, I'm like...Oh. Nevermind then. I don't know why.

Whenever I hear of "gang-related murder in London" I always assume both the killer and victim are black - and I'm usually right!
Most paedophiles you hear about are white. Most terror-suspects are Pakistani. Football hooligans are mostly white.
It's not really racism, just a bit of racial stereotyping which usually has a basis in fact.
