I was against recasting the TOS crew for a long, long time. But you know what? I think I now accept that for Star Trek to go forward it needs Kirk & Spock to take it forward. Have a look at this image...

If you've been a fan for the 30 years like I have you look at that image with a sense of, well, reverance. Key characters in the mythos that frankly stand pillars above Picard, Sisko & Co.

I now understand why the studio took the view it did. But, this is the most nervous time to be a Star Trek as we now boldyly go where no man has gone before with recasting and its make or break time. I understand the change...I now pray it works.

I really have no problem with recasting. It worked for a lot of heros - Superman, Batman, James Bond. I don't follow the news about the new movie much as I seem to have outgrown Trek, but I really hope they'll do a consequent reboot like CASINO ROYALE. Oh yes, and make it for adults - Trek today is still the Trek I watched as a child, only with other faces. Those two things might get me interested again.

People didn't take to Roger Moore right away. They changed the character a bit for the Roger Moore flicks.

With Batman and Superman, people are more keyed into the character and not the person playing it.

With Star Trek TOS, you are keyed into the people. El Chup is right, this is a bold endeavor.

KIRK, SPOCK & MCCOY are gods!!!

The problem being, that Kirk is now a lawyer in Boston, while some young guy is pretending to be him in space.

Hey, Kirk's got no problem with it so long as the guy playing him makes him look good.
"Yeah, I was that good looking back then..."

Isn't acceptance the 5th and final stage of grief?

I'll definitely check out the movie, although I don't have high hopes.

I do predict it will be a box office dud, though.

I saw a 1st season TNG episode last night.

Jesus, that was some awful script writing! The dialogue was so forced and unnatural.

Thank god they got some decent writers like Michael Piller to turn the show around.

Of course, that has nothing to do with the topic but I figured I'd throw it in here.

This is my stance as well. I will be there on opening night. But, I still figure it'll fail miserably.
