... on a much publicised voting situation in UK government. David Davis is my MP, and he resigned from the shadow cabinet recently to force a by-election. He says he did this because he objects to the erosion of the UK public's freedoms. The Beeb's lowdown can be found here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7451218.stm The list of candidates for the by-election can be found here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7483851.stm David Pinder, who is running for the New Party For Britain, has been doing a massive campaign, including kids on billboard bikes riding around the constituency and a plane flying overheard bearing a banner for his party. So, WF, who would you vote for? Or are you sceptical of David Davis' motives and would you refuse to vote? Do you think, even if DD wins, it will make any difference?
I suppose I would vote Davis, but only because I'm a tory voter these days. I don't approve of this stunt as I think in the current climate he knows he's a alomost dead cert for re-election and I think the whole affair is a gimmick designer to build on the success of the other recent by-elections so that Cameron can keep the momentum going until the next general election and also distract the public from the misuse of funds his MEPs are busy embrioling themselves in.
Davis is doing this whole thing with a big grin on his face. I wouldn't vote for any of them, then again, I havn't been motivated to vote for anyone in the last 12 years or so.
Who should i vote for? At the moment i have a choice of Idiot A Idiot B Idiot C Idiot D or Idiot E Non of these people is worthy of my vote Should i just wave a pen round and stab it at a ballot paperand choose at random?
By using the phrase "worthy of my vote" you imply self-superiority and I wonder if its something you could do better. That fact is that if you are too lazy to:- 1) vote for the least of however many evils; or 2) run for election yourself. then you have no credible right to complain about the state of our society or the activitiy of our politicians because you have forfeited your right to do so. Whether or not you think you are better than them or not doesn't change the fact that society is society and remain society whatever you view is, so you can either take part or accept the consequences through keeping your mouth shut.
There is someone id not just like to vote for, but id like the majority of other people to vote for as well. 'None of the above' It would be great if this actualy was a demcracy and we had that option. An 80% vote for none of the above would send exactly the kind of message that needs to be sent. Id like to see the commons and the lords scrapped, and the civil service disbanded and start the whole thing again.
henryhill would probably vote for David Bishop. Just looking at the descriptions on the link, I'd probably vote for David Pinder.
Much as I disagree with Davis on almost everything, I'd probably hold my nose and vote for him just because I think it's important to send as strong a message as possible on that 42 days nonsense...
Yeah and judging by the completely idiotic nature of your presidential campaign and everyone involved, Id take our over yours... But only just...
It's a joke! I was really just bumping the thread for summerteeth... Anyway, I do have to admit to our campaign being pretty cockeyed at times. But don't get too snooty or we'll have to kick your butts again.
I voted for Davis. He was outside the polling station when I went. I didn't speak to him, but he was telling someone (who I presume had asked him how he intended to fight from the back benches) how he didn't care about sacrificing his political career if it meant that our freedoms were protected. Yeah, come down from that cross, Mr Davies, I could use the wood. But, that said, I do kinda admire him. And I do think his anger about the issues is genuine. Bigger turnout than I expected, although OH didn't vote for similar reasons to what Dan has given.
Is it wrong that all this talk of "polling" and "I could use the wood" from a hot British mom has got me distracted?
