Burp, poop, vomit, fart. Pretty much sums up all the kid's shows on both networks. No wonder kids today act like heathens.
I have a 9yo and an 11yo, only 2 TV's, and spend too damn much time on wrodforge when I ought to be taking back control of my TV.
Now that's a good kid's cartoon. Grownups enjoy it too. And it just doesn't get any better than Bugs Bunny and the Warner Bros. stuff. Cartoon Network is as bad as Disney and Nick, and Boomerang is working on it.
Nickolodeon turned to crap once they started airing Rugrats: All Grown Up alongside Rugrats. I miss some of the shows they used to run in the '90s. Doug, Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, All That (before it turned to shit), GUTS, Double Dare, etc. etc.
One of the reasons that a lot of those MGM and WB cartoons were so good was because they originally ran as shorts before the feature movie at the theater. They weren't intended for kids and a lot of the humor is more sophisticated. I will admit to a lifelong dislike of all things Tom and Jerry, especially the ones that were made for a kid audience.
When I was a kid, the theater in my hometown still did that. I'd rather watch a Tom and Jerry cartoon than the 15 freaking minutes of trailers and commercials that theaters show now.
Muad Dib, you are a gentleman and a Confederate of good taste, [-]aside from your dislike of Tom and Jerry[/-].
They don't make cartoons like they used to; even back in the 80s. It seems like the main characters in cartoons today focus on farting and acting like a smartass. There was at least GI Joe and Transformers when I was younger.
When you were younger?!? What are you, 22? Lasers, race cars, aeroplanes, It's a ... Duck blurr. Life is like a hurricane, here in ... Duck Burg You might solve a mystery Or rewrite history!
Disney, Nick, and Cartoon Network are on 24/7 around here. Kids Next Door is on right now. I had to buy another TV and DVD player so I could watch Torchwood on Wednesdays (and tonight, too).
Courage the Cowardly Dog is bizarre. Watch that sometime. Jimmy Neutron and Billy & Mandy are cool, too.
ya know, given the choice, my two youngest psychos prefer to watch the old Tom and Jerry and Tex Avery type cartoons on Boomerang than the crap thats on Disney, nick and CN (Justice League, Batman, and Superman excepted). It just dont get no better than old fashioned cartoon violence.
I know when I have kids, I'm gonna buy DVDs of all those old cartoons for them. I think I've seen every single Tom and Jerry episode.
Yeah. But in 20 years today's kids are gonna bitch about how stuff on TV isn't as good as today's stuff. Back in the day, there weren't as many options. You had Disney, Warner Bros., Hanna Barbara and and maybe a couple channels. Now you've got all sorts of channels and programs to watch so naturally the glut of shows will be shit. But there is still excellent stuff here and there.
The thing about my generation was that we grew up during the early cable explosion, when they had no programming besides these old cartoons to fill Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. I still remember when ABC ran Bugs Bunny on Saturday mornings. But our generation's cartoons were so subversive, it's almost disturbing to go back and rewatch them. Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, EEK the Cat... Today's generation of cartoons is so bland and vanilla it's vulgar.
But seriously...Chris makes a good point. The cartoons I remember...some of them were really WTF and crude. I think the only reason I liked Ren and Stimpty was because my parents were about it. Now, I have to have a barf bag on hand to even think about that show. And there are plenty of old time cartoons I remember watching on CN before they got hip to original programming [-]and catering to weeaboos with anime[/-] from about the "golden age" that I never liked. "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop," for one, along with just about every incarnation of "Scooby Doo." (Cue ). That being said, I wept for the fans after watching "Scooby Doo, Get a Clue." That show is horrible, and the theme song is the most putrid thing I've ever heard from the realm of kid's TV. I tried using the YouTube tag, but it keeps fucking up, since even the board itself appears to hate this song, too.
