I live in "the bicycle capital of the Northwest" and now that the weather was getting nicer I got my bike and we finally went out. OH and I have been walking to our grocery store, which is three miles there and back with a fairly giant hill. Sometimes we'd walk to the movie theater, which is 2.6 miles each way. So we are looking forward to taking our bikes and getting there a little faster. The great thing about where I live is there are bike lanes on almost every road and bike racks (that look like bikes) all over the place. Here's one of the bike racks in action: Like you Moocey, my muscles were sore long before my lungs and I barely broke a sweat. My junk feels all bruised from the seat. I'm pretty stoked to get in shape, to be able to bike around town, and to be able to cross train on my off days from training. Woot. Oh yea, and OH and I made it up the giant hill. I was amazed, we were both sure we were going to have to walk at least some of it. I've been really interested in taking advantage of the velodrome since I live pretty much across the street from it and I feel like I'd be wasting it if I move away and never get to, but it's so expensive! So we'll see how that goes. I think it'd be pretty awesome to race in one of those (they have a beginner class and race nights for beginners after you've passed the class...)
Personally I prefer the definition that it's genitalia, not just boy parts. That's how it's used where I come from, but I know not everyone uses it that way.
Moocey is going to shoot you for spamming up his thread. Oh wait....the hippie sold his gun. Nevermind.
I do have a bike but it's difficult to dig it out of the garage thanks to the wife. It's so much easier to keep a thing clean then to clean it up when it is a mess...but no.....that hasn't sunk in. Must be because she doesn't clean the garage. I do. But I did get this and it is wonderful: Ordered it from https://secure.eurodrtv.com/spinningtv.com/index.html (or this site has others: http://www.spinning.com/spinning-shop-spinner-bikes/spinner-bike-fit.asp) Comes with four discs and you get another two for a total of six. Or I just listen to my Ipod. I use two different Podcasts: PODRUNNER: Exercise music for running, spinning, or any fast-paced workout PODRUNNER: INTERVALS -- Weekly, nonstop, varied-BPM workout mixes to improve stamina, pace, and conditioning for beginning, intermediate, and experienced runners, from First Day to 5K (similar to Couch to 5K), to 10K, to half marathon. Both are great in that they are electronic music with no words. They last anywhere from a half hour to an hour. The regular Podrunner is a single beat per minute while the Interval ones vary the beats per minute to help work you into running a 10k in thirty weeks. I get to distracted by rock music so these come in handy.
Junk update: My bum is sore. Oof. I think I need some of those padded bike shorts. Rode over 18 miles today.
If you can afford them, Castelli's are great. I have some Cannondale Classics that are pretty good at first, but the pad wore out and is now almost nothing. I've found my ass hurts more on my mountain bike than my road bike. It's strange I have a fat WTB saddle on my mt bike and a thin San Marco saddle on my road bike. It's funny how that works.
I think if I were serious about it, I would replace the bike seat before investing in padded bike shorts. As it is I think I just need to get used to bike seats again, so hopefully I will "toughen up" as summer continues.
Our land in the mountains. There are some pretty cool trails left by the cows we run up there. Uh, I think its the normal flat pedals. I think my feet feeling this way are more a result of 2-1/2 months of a brutal, brutal workout routine catching up to me, plus me not biking that often. I'm soaking them in espom salts again.
If you're not sure what kind of pedals they are, then they're the normal flat pedals. And how do your feet hurt from riding a bike? You're wearing shoes, aren't you?
