Fuck Maxine Waters. She won't be running for President in 2024. I'm asking, if we fast forwarded to '24, and it was Biden vs. Trump, knowing what you know now (and only what you know now), would you vote for Trump?

It's been documented that some white supremacists have adopted a hand sign similar to the OK sign as a white power thing. https://www.npr.org/2019/09/26/764728163/the-ok-hand-gesture-is-now-listed-as-a-symbol-of-hate

So it seems that this was an unfortunate misunderstanding where the guy had chalked up three wins and was celebrating that fact by making the hand signal. He certainly deserves the benefit of the doubt.

That said, racism is such a pernicious evil, I definitely think that we should potentially err by looking for it under every rock rather than minimize its influence.

But then we might occasionally hurt a white person's feelings, and as we all know, that's the biggest injustice of all!

Lots of politicians use those same words, would you assume they meant that to incite a violent insurrection?

wow - I would actually have to literally flip a coin. And no "two out of three" bullshit either. Both would be well past their mental/physical prime and I couldn't support making a decision for either one based on that factor alone. That said down ballot would not involve coin flips.

Interesting. So if they led to completely different outcomes, it seems like there are only two possibilities:

    1) They were, in fact, not the same.

    2) Trumpers are inherently more prone to violence.

These are the two conclusions that can be reached using your own data. Which one is correct?

Here’s the conclusion I reached. Saying we should, “fight like hell” is political speech that has been used by politicians on the left and the right for decades and is meant to be a metaphor and not taken literally and everyone knows that so trying to say it’s an incitement of violence just because Trump and his affiliates said it is not an indictment, therefore the left are a bunch of hypocrites.

C is correct. There may be other factors to consider - it's not binary. Personally I don't take any politician's words to be literal. As for those Capitol rioters (and riot supporters) who take the "Trump said to do it!" approach as their defense - sorry, not buying it ESPECIALLY for any and all military members. Here is why I feel this way:

    1) This was no formal military action. Nobody was under official orders or part of any official military force.
    2) Had it been official and Trump said literally - whether publicly or privately - "breach the Capitol defenses and intimidate Federal public officials to include kidnapping and physical violence of an aggravated nature" those would be recognized as unlawful orders by the experienced military members. The whole shebang would have been shut down.

When words incite violence, they're an incitement to violence.

Then charge those who committed the violence accordingly. AFAIK the Capitol rioters are being rounded up and charged. Hopefully every "peaceful protester" who went rogue and did violent, destructive things in the past, present & future protests/riots will be rounded up and charged accordingly. And no, they don't get a pass for "punching up" in their quest for systemic societal change.

Depends on how unstable your fans are, and if you're aware of it.
In the case of Trump, it was very much, and yes.

I'm sorry, Robotman, context is a thing in the universe.
    With Trump's context, yes.
    With someone else's context, no.

So Trumpers are inherently more violent than the people Tim Kaine was talking to, is what you're saying?

If you look up the legal definition of incitement, one thing you will definitely not find is a list of magical words and phrases that automatically incite violence every time they are uttered.
