    Spc. John George Borbonus April 12, 2007 19 Boise, Idaho, USA Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division Borbonus was one of two soldiers killed when a suicide truck bomber assaulted their base in Baghdad, Iraq, on April 12, 2007. He was awarded the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest military decoration for valor, for manning his machine gun and diverting the truck with a steady stream of fire. Although the truck breached the base's perimeter, Borbonus' "self-sacrificing actions averted a much large loss of life," according to his award citation.
