Not a great argument. The animated movie had a budged of 40 million. The live action one, 250 million. That's an ROI of 5.3 vs 2.2.

You're forgetting inflation, which puts the 1989 budget at about $84-million. Still substantially cheaper than the 2023 remake, but my point stands. The 2023 film is making bank.

And while ROI is obviously important for profit margins, revenue is a better indicator of public enthusiasm.

Oh, the ROI dictates what gets made, for sure. But the income is what's relevant to determining if the "NOBODY WANTS TEH WOKE MOVIE" narrative is true. And the expense side of the ledger is determined by things other than the lead actress' ethnicity.

Also, don't forget that Disney has more ways to make money off of movies today than they did back our resident 30-year-old-who's-pushing-40, saw the original in the theater.

My understanding is that the reason they're doing all these live action remakes now is not just because it's low hanging fruit with a built in audience, but also because those films serve to extend the copyrights on the original properties. So even if they don't make a huge profit at the box office, it's still a long-term investment in their assets.

That's certainly a part of it but I think it was the CGI Lion King movie came out that the scriptwriters of the original movie wouldn't be getting any royalties from the new film, even if it used 100% of the script they wrote for the first one. Seems a tad unreasonable to me. Wonder if anyone will attempt to explain why Disney is perfectly ethical in not paying someone for making a movie from their script?

The wrong message could be received by the studio. Especially on remakes that may not add much new reason to view it. If the remake flops is it because it is woke, or because the new generation doesn't want the old stories? WB keeps on trying to restart things like animaniacs, but do kids want the old characters?

Does the snow white story even matter to today's kids, or is it a nostalgic thing that is more for adults who might drag their kids to it?

We all know @Steal Your Face will be doing his tucker carlson dance if the movie does not make a billion dollars. Even then he will claim it could have made a trillion dollars if they only had cast Jenine Piro in the lead because she is white as the driven snow.

FF isn't going to see the movie anyway because he has to buy some country album where the guy sings around a lynching tree telling all the black people how if they step out of line it is time for some small town justice. Fucking Las Vegas shooter could have done something useful and killed that asshole, but no.

Snow White is noteworthy for being the first full-length animated feature ever.

Seriously, I used to think "Disney Adults" were the saddest thing ever, but at least their creepy obsession is bringing them joy. "Adults" expressing outrage over anything Disney-related are so much sadder.
