Ok. So does that mean that the next time someone spouts off about a legal matter I have your permission to tell them they aren't allowed to offer a comment?

Oh, and you still haven't told me where I purported to make a diagnosis.

You can comment all you like. You can just expect to be called out on it. And I'm pretty sure somewhere along the way you have called people out for being wrong legally. Although I don't know how much we discuss UK law on WF.
I pointed out where you attempted to figure out if your coworker's ADHD was "legit" so in fairness not an actual diagnosis but what we would call a rule out. Furthermore, you suggested that Talkalhuno's friend was misdiagnosed and really had Asperger's based on a paragraph she wrote. Both assumptions based on very limited information.

There is a difference between calling someone out and basically implying they've no business speaking on a subject since they don't have a license.

And are you a Doctor? Do you have the legal right to make a diagnosis? Or are you just a Social Worker?

I know Mental Health Professionals in the field I work. I also know only the Doctors can make a diagnosis and order medicine for a patient.

And yes I just implied that if you're not a Doctor then you've no business talking El Chup down.

Reason I ask is because most of the people I know who have ADHD also have some form or tourettes...ranging from mild to fairly major.

I'm a psychotherapist specializing in Cognitive Behavioral therapy for anxiety and depresssion. I'm a licensed professional counselor. I am able to give diagnosis for mental health treatment, and develop treatment plans. I do it pretty much every day. I am not able to prescibe as I'm not a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner. I'm not terribly interested in prescribing meds.

So in the end you're just a fancy Social Worker and not a Doctor. Much like Liet is a para-legal and not a lawyer. :bailey:

You just have to get used to it.

It would seem every idiot in this place with a drivers license is more qualified to comment on traffic flows, patterns, engineering, regulations and policy than me. In much the same way as everyone knows more about the law than el chu.

At the end of the day though, you get a pay check for what you do, the armchair generals get to make a faceless, often baseless opinions on the internet.

    * But I suppose thats the whole point of a discussion board.

You obviously can't tell the difference between speculation and an authorative statement.

    Speculation is just that, speculation.

Since I have made not definitve statements in this thread, would you care to tell me exactly what it is that I have gotten wrong thus far?

People don't need to take any interest in the tedious minutiae of your field to know how to fucking drive, nor does being well-versed in it guarantee any kind of skill behind the wheel.

You think that line is a burn. That makes it funny!

Truth be told, compared to your posts, a dog taking a fucking shit is more interesting.

By the way, I heard TBBS is for sale. Why don't you hang out over there, lick Bonz's balls for a while and see if you can buy that board? Either that or go find yourself an ambulance to chase.

(P.S. - I've noticed you are constantly compelled to respond to ever fucking post I ever make. I'm going to start ignoring you more because you're boring and tedious.)

Your "diagnosis" is that you called ADHD a bullshit illness, and then went off and spouted a bunch of ignorant shit about ADHD.

A guy on the stand today claimed he was mentally ill. When I inquired into what his diagnosis was he said ADHD.

I asked him if he thought he might have something more serious, like bipolar, since he seems to be suicidal lately. He told me he thought ADHD and bipolar were the same illness.

I like cross-examining stupid people.

In my jurisdiction we don't waste our time cross-examining people to see whether or not they they are ill. Either they adduce a detailed medical report or the claim is ignored.

Yes, ADHD is a real medical condition and beating a kid into line will not work with a child who has ADHD.

My youngest daughter has SEVERE ADHD. She never had any discipline problems. However she couldnt concentrate for more than a few seconds at a time. For instance I would tell her to get ready for school and brush her hair. I would return a few minutes later and find her doing something else WITH the hair brush just hanging in her hair. She wouldn't even realize it was there. It would take 8 hours to do her home work and I would have to sit with her for every minute and constantly redirect her back to her home work. She would cry because she said she didn't feel stupid, yet she was failing in school. I was adamant about not giving her meds for her ADHD. I figured that I was failing as a parent and I needed to knuckle under and try harder.

Yeah, about that. Eventually I was convinced to have her evaluated. So we took her to a learning specialist and a neurologist. Short of the long their professional medical diagnosis were similar and was something along the lines of "Holy fuck! How have you two not lost your minds? That kid has one of the worst cases of ADHD I have ever seen". We informed our daughter and she began to cry. She was crying because someone confirmed that she wasn't stupid. So we medicate her. This is just before Christmas of her 3rd grade year. Fast forward to the end of the school year...

She has now blown the lid off of her standardized testing, she has gotten nothing but straight As. She's done so well that she skipped the 4th grade. She is now on the honor roll. Apparently ADHD in highly intelligent children is pretty common.

You can tell when she skipped her meds. She doesnt turn into a zombie when she is on them. However if shes off of them she turns into one scatter brained individual.

In retrospect, she was always this way, even pre-pregnancy. She was an Olympic gymnast in the womb. As an infant you had to constantly change the stimulation she was exposed to and there had to be stimulation. No wonder she ran our asses ragged. Funny thing is that her bother does not have ADHD and with him, he was so calm that we initially thought he was deaf or blind. We didn't know how a normal baby should behave. It's funny in retrospect.

I have three scouts in my troop that have been diagnosed with ADHD. Again you can tell when their meds are working and when they arent.

So is ADHD real? Per my observations it is. I have concrete observations. Are parents reluctant to medicate their kids? Yeah. I have yet to talk to a parent of an ADHD kid who wanted their kid medicated. It's real.

On the flip side I have seen numerous adults who use ADHD as an excuse for everything pertaining to themselves, not their kids. Look, if an adult suffers from ADHD, then they need to nut up and see a pshrink and quit bullshitting around. It should never be used as an excuse for poor performance. It's the adults who I see who are trying to use it as an excuse in the work place, not with their kids.

    Flame away. :bergman:

Well, prima facie that should not change what I said.

Obviously I don't know the facts of your case, but my mind immediately goes to the potential competance of a witness who says he is mentally ill, and if the objective of one side is to support this assertion then independant medical evidence would be required.

Conversely, if the objective is to establish that he is not mentally ill then surely the absence of supporting medical evidence is enough to treat him as a mentally competent witness?

That's how it is here anyhow.

An additional through; I have run into adults who are self diagnosed and who then proceed to use ADHD as an excuse in the work place. If an adult is professionally diagnosed then they shouldnt be using ADHD as an excuse? Why? because they should be on their meds. If they arent on their meds then it goes right back to them being the problem. The same would apply to someone who had another type of mental illness or disorder. The only adults who seem to use it as an excuse are the same folks that will use anything as an excuse.

I believe I have this though I have never been diagnosed. When I was a child they called this hyperactivity. Its hard to focus on things that do not hold your attention. I cannot just sit and talk to someone for very long. I feel the need to do something.
