About the same time it took to stop blaming Bush. So probably the entire Presidency.

Flying the flag upside down to indicate distress isn't a symbolic thing, it's an acute, "we need help at the specific location where the flag is being flown" thing. Flying an inverted flag because the country has gone to shit is like dialing 911 because the country had gone to shit.

Flying the flag at half-staff may be appropriate. Usually, that's done to honor the death of state officials, military, and, during 9/11 times, first responders. It might make sense to do it because of corona deaths or brown people killed by law enforcement.

The only symbolic meaning behind an inverted American flag is it's sometimes done as deliberate desecration. Which, I guess that may be appropriate as well.

So K..... Europe is like a delusional prostitute who wants to believe their pimp China really does care about them.
China tells Europe what they need to hear, exactly when they need to hear it. China has "game" I guess.
    Great relationship!

Pretty much what I just said.

What mostly recommends China right now over the United States is that China is not setting itself on fire on a daily basis. This does not make China a good ally, but that fact in turn is not sufficient to turn Trump's America into one.

I think this is one of the major troubles with the US. One has to realize that there is probably a chunk of people in america who qualify leaving the country as going to Canada, or going on a cruise around the Islands in the gulf. There are probably even people who have traveled to australia or england who have not left the comfort zone of american tourist traps.

Even in the US there is a vast difference of culture through different states and cities, and if you have never left arkansas or nebraska you do not have a clue about who most americans are. The people in rural america are a minority of americans.

I have to disagree. Electing Biden will not fix or change anything. Biden is going back to allowing the problem to continue and just pretending it is not there. He will make some speeches, have some photo ops, and he will pretend he was doing something. That would have been the same with Hillary or any other establishment dem. They are not interested in fixing any problems. They just put some sand in the potholes. The progressive people are the ones who want change, and we see how the dem party treats them. It is never the time. You have to wait. Here is some legislation that will collapse right after you vote for it.

America is the whore who makes China say "Bitch, why you make me gotta hurt you?!" in this scenario.

Trump's in the back of the pink limo getting reamed by Putin, in the meantime.

Yup. The cold war wasn't really about whether democracy and capitalism or communism were the most moral or legally sound systems, a big part of it was which system provides better outcomes for people living under it.

In the late 1980s a random Chinese citizen with access to outside media and information could reach the conclusion that making their country more like the West would lead to a better life.

Currently that's a much harder case to make.

And that pisses me off, because the Chinese government are not good guys, but the world is doing a damn good job of making it look like their approach is more stable and gives more hope to parents that their children can have better lives than they did. It's making them look like more trustworthy partners despite the fact they can't be trusted.

as was already stated, the president does not have a say in what the Secret Service do to protect him. It's not about Trump it's about the office of the presidency. If the Secret Service says get the fuck in the bunker, you get the fuck in the bunker. That's just how it works here - what Germany does is their business.

or maybe it seems like "everyone" trusts China more than the U.S. because anyone who doesn't is vilified as a racist/jingoist/fascist. But I don't expect a thought like that to enter your mind.

Or maybe it's just the US has proven itself untrustworthy.

You are racist and jingoist. I'd say you're borderline facist, so I understand where you're coming from.

    1. The only time that word you use in quotes appears on this page is in your post, and a post quoting your post: upload_2020-6-4_9-51-27.png

    2. My post literally said they couldn't be trusted. I don't know how things are in Georgia, but here in the parts of the physical and online worlds I inhabit it's not at all an uncommon position to hear without people being vilified as racist/jingoist/fascist.

There's a news podcast I listen to on the way to work every morning. It was saying that China is rattling sabers again about Taiwan with "top generals" speaking to China's state run media about plans to forcibly reunify the country. Oh, and China's first real built in-house carrier just finished workups for her first deployment.

As if 2020 couldn't get any worse.

About ten years ago, one of the flunkies at our local post office put up the flag upside down one morning by mistake. Needless to say, the postal workers were surprised when six police officers came through the front door with rifles. Better safe than sorry.

A Reagan could do it in eight years. A Washington or Jefferson could do it in four. What we've had the last couple decades? Twenty, if we're lucky and Congress stops being overrun with idiots.
