Isn't this one of those things Christians get a bad rap for doing?

No, I don't believe God necessarily is going to perform a miracle for Tebow and I don't believe in praying for wins. But it's not just "crazy Christians" that do stuff like this.

Praying for people to be blessed and to do their best is always a good thing, IMO, though.

I have to admit, I still have trouble cheering for Tebow. It's the whole UF thing that I can't get over. :)

Of course, there's always Romans 10:9

Where you are advised that making a public confession of faith is important. They really don't conflict, but one doesn't preclude the other. Context is everything.

Context is part of it, but content is also a factor. I give you Luke 18:11-14. And this:

I don't follow football...but in what I seen about what's going on It seems that Liberals really hate Tebow for being a Christan for some strange reason oh they are also are upset that at his Mother for not having an abortion and some of the comments made by them had it been said about a Muslim by a Conservative would have them crying racism.

You don't follow football, yet you somehow know all of these things. I'm sure your sources are unimpeachable.

Here's another one of those "it's just human nature" comments. I've seen interviews with Jewish groups, Islamic groups, atheist groups, etc. in Denver and all of them are very supportive of Tebow. The big outcry against him seems to be among people who'd be against him anyway because he might beat their team.

Of course, I'll never forgive him for beating Georgia like an unwanted stepchild while he played for Florida, but I've gotta respect him for standing up for his beliefs in front of what sometimes has been a hostile crowd.

Well it wasn't hard to find unimpeachable sources all you have to do is just see, read and hear what Bill Maher,Bill Press and other liberals write and say about Tebow.:techman:

I think they're both full of shit, in that either of their gods gives a good goddamn about a football game while there are children all over the world dying of starvation and disease.

Pious Player: "Oh Lord, help me make this play!"
Witches of Woo: "Elements, make their quarterback fumble the ball!"
Jebus/Mother Earth: "Fuck you, both! Right now a little girl's dying of cancer! Is winning all you care about?!"

Context is important - I did make a note about "praying to win" in my first post here. :)

Of course, God is the ultimate judge of what we believe, do, and say. Tebow may or may not be the greatest Christian to play football even though I may like the things he does and says on the subject. Who's to say whether his "tebowing" is showing off or a sincere act? God is. Of course, the NFL may decide they think it's some kind of distraction to the game (and that would be some seriously tortured logic, I'm sure) but none of us can really tell what's in his heart.

So, yeah. Matthew 6 is important. But, I believe, it's more a message for me to watch myself than for me to watch someone else. Don't you think? But there also is that urging to make that public profession.

Along those lines, I also refer you to Matthew 5:15 and the associated Luke 11:33 / Mark 4:21

Especially when Jesus said John 8:12.

Not a football fan, but I keep hearing about this Tebow guy. What's all the hub-bub about? What is newsworthy about him?

Of all the things Christians get a bad rap for doing, praying to God to influence a football game is pretty low on the list.

Both sides in this story are missing the point. Tebow (if I understand things correctly) isn't giving so much thanking God for actually intervening and making touchdowns as much as he is giving thanks for the life of faith he's led that has brought him to the point where he is making the touchdown.

And I think this is what rankles liberals the most--that someone could lead a good and righteous life, be grateful for it, and be successful. It is much more rewarding for them to see religious people as shrill zealots who have shitty little lives. Because that makes them feel better about their shrill, zealous, shitty little lives.
